Should I be worried? He never left his car. He took pictures of my house from inside his SUV. No signs on the side, so it didnt look like an official vehicle unless it was undercover.

Thanks for all the answers. We are not refinancing or anything like that. I called the HOA to see if maybe one of them was taking pictures due to some violation, they said "no". They did mention that it might be an assesor looking at similar houses in the neighborhood to assess his own he is selling.

I did stand by my front window and I know he saw me. Why didnt he have the decency to come and explain what he was doing?

It was creepy, but I think it wil be ok.

It could be a person who used to live there years ago.

but most likely when a house is being valued, the person looks for simular houses in the area, same sq footage, some design and use it as a comparison.

No they don't come to your door, they merely do thier job and move on. May not be polite, but they don't need your permission to take a public photo, so they really don't care.

This could be a drive-by assessment of your house by the bank or insurance company?
Did you just get a new policy? Are you applying for a second mortgage?
If you see the vehicle again, get a plate number and report it to the police, they will contact the driver and find out what is going on. Don't be paranoid but keep an eye out for the vehicle when you are out and about.

Could be the local govt. doing a drive by assessment of your property. It's used to held determine how much you pay for your taxes on your property each year. Just to be sure, give your local department of taxation dept a call during normal business hours.

It's pretty unlikely that a Private investigator would be that sloppy, and let you know what he's doing, and I doubt a criminal would case the place with occupants inside.

That happened one day to us, too, and it really caught me off guard. I had called the police, but was told there was nothing they could do about something like that....there isn't a crime being committed.

Again..like others' have said....could be someone assessing stuff. But if it gets really weird/suspicious, then I would contact the police and ask what they thought.

Have you been a bad boy?

Tax Assesment Worker?
Private Investigator?
SSI Worker?
FBI?
State Police??
Stalker?

Get the Plate Number if he returns. Turn it in.

Sure I'd be worried, but.... By the time I'd be worried the Cross Hair of My Thingy would be up his Nose!

Good Luck. Be Safe

Could have been an undercover police officer, private investigator. Unless he was on your property, then their isn't much you can do about it. Who knows, maybe he likes the way your home looks and he and his wife want to build one like it.

You take a gun or a baseball pole and go strait to his truck by the front of it and ask him what is he doing?
Remember you are in YOUR house, he is not.
if the explanation sounds vague call 911.
then take note of the plate of the truck, and be ready to file a report.

If you can't think of why...just keep an eye out.
I've stopped in front of houses before because the wife wanted ideas on a porch, balcony, or addition.
