If you are married, shouldn't you count your spouse as a friend somewhere on the continuum of acquaintance to best friend.

That is not relevant. If you can find one person in this life that you can call a friend you have been a success. Remember that the world is filled with selfish people. But there are also good people. Go find em.

1,5 friends. 1 for my best friend, known her for 15 years. 0,5 for someone who will very likely become a close friend.
Some good acquaintances; a lot of people to just say hello to and discuss the weather with.

I have only two very good friends. I have a few acquaintances, and many associates. A few good friends are better that a whole lot of indifferent or bad friends.

well there are really different types of friends... there are those that are just like acquaintances, some people you don't see often, some you see often enough but aren't close to, and then those that you'd call best friends.
As far as acquaintances, there are very many...
As far as those I don't see often, there are some...
As far as those I see pretty often, there are a lot of those...
As far as best friends, I only have one person I know for sure I can truly trust...

I have a lot of colleagues but i have 3 best friends that are my best friends in the world.
1. my best friend since high school & she knows me better than anybody else.
2. my best friend who I can say anything to & know that I wouldnt get reprimanded (i wouldnt get judged)
3. my battlebuddy that I know ive got his back & hes got mine. I trust him with my life.
Those three make up for the ones I dont have...
