This condition is also known as "Jeep's Disease'....since a large number of jeep drivers in the last world war had it....caused by bouncing and banging around in the seat. It is commonly found in 'hairy' men....particularly when the hair is around the bottom of the spine & in the perianal area. It is usually treated by surgery....you open up the cyst....pack it....and let the edges of the wound heal together...thus eliminating the cyst. It sometimes recurs...but if it is done properly at surgery the recurring percentile is minimal.

I have always had a pilonidal sinus. It is something you are born with. From what I understand, it is just a small cavity in the last bone of your spine. When I was younger, if I played on the floor with my kids, or bumped down the stairs with them, etc., it would get irritated and become inflamed and fill with infection. The first time it happened, I let it go and had to have it lanced. After that and every time since, I have immediately gone on an antibiotic (keflex) and within a few days it would go away. I think the key is knowing right away that it is infected and seeing the Dr. for a prescription. This is not a life threatening thing, not to worry.

I had one of those and I had endoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery to remove it. It was causing all sorts of clogging and congestion and my sinus on the left could not drain. The operation only took half an hour and I was able to leave after another hour. It has helped somewhat, though I still have problems with my sinuses.

Oh man does that suck! Im so sorry, My boyfriend just got one 2 months ago right above his buttcrack, I guess thats the only place you can get one.. Well anyway he had surgery and it was absolutly disgusting for him and me, he just kept bleeding and bleeding and discharge just kept coming and coming, he wore pads on the underwear, I would say its one of the worst, non-life threating things you can get. SO GROSS!!! Tell him to keep himself as clean as possible!!! My boyfriend is a big guy kinda hairy and he got it from sweating alot and sitting at a baseball game. He would be able to do much for a while. If you need anymore advice or anything let me know, im on everyday
