Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make sure that she stays quiet?
Doesn't she know that she's violating the teachings of the bible?

Should she be smited?

that's because she;s a typical christian -- she doesn't like to obey the bible rules that apply to her and make her life inconvenient, she just wishes to shriek about those laws that do NOT apply to her, like the anti-gay laws that she thinks the bible requires. those are the rules she wants enforced. kinda like the women here who hate gays, but refuse to acknowledge how unclean they are and how they are worth fewer sheckles than men, as the bible states they are.

this particular scripture in 1COR 14:34-35 clearly states that they are not to speak in church. liars will come on here and delineate that even further to say "speak in front of the congregation" etc, and make it sound like it says "under specific circumstances" which it does not say... they always try to justify stuff that makes their lives inconvenient -- but who forgets that adding to the meaning of the bible is a sin, too.

*cough cough* nice way to make fun of people thank you all the same. One, making a joyful noise unto the Lord is a great thing. Two, go soak your head in the nearest pool until you get some sense flooded through your veins. and Three, you can stop knocking down the new testament....right about....NOW. Thank you all the same, but no one should be "smited." and She need not stay quiet.

Certainly not! First of all... this verse is written in the book of
Corinthians and when Paul established that church.... the Corinthians where massive heathens so he had to give specific descriptions on how people should behave in the church. The women that lived in Corinth where predominately retired prostitutes so the clamorous behavior was within them and Paul wanted to teach them to behave decently. So... to make a long story short>>> Paul meant it for the Cornithian women and not for men/women to take this verse or letter so literally that it actually seperates people... creating different denominations to make a point on how they think the scripture is interpreted. Read the history of the letters before you make assumptions. sorry so harsh

The answer to your question is for you to find a church that actually believes what you are saying. Good luck. You might find a church that doesn't believe in singing.

Also you are misquoting the scripture and twisting it. It says thou shalt not suffer a woman to teach.

This is from
1 Timothy 2 verses 9-12

So leave the women alone.

No gender implied in that verse..men gossip as much as our lovely women.

1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

To understand why this was written, along with other do's and do nots in this same letter, you will have to do a bit of research into cultural belief's at the time of the letter.

Here is what you will discover.

Paul had a very difficult job. He had to combine two different cultures into one belief in Jesus Christ.

The Jewish culture never allowed women into inner temples to worship God, only men were allowed in to hear and to speak. WJewish women were not even taught to read or write during this time.

The pagen culture on the other hand put women up on a pedestal and made them priestessess. The pagen temples had female prostitutes that shaves their heads or wore their hair very short to look like men, and the male prostitutes wore their hair long to appear more feminine.

Paul is dealing with two very different cultures (lifestyles) and trying to meld them into one.

For the first time ever, Jewish women were allowed into church to hear and to learn the word of God and they did not understand many things that were being taught. Because the men allowed the women into the church, they still made them sit apart from the men on the other side of the room. This created problems when a woman shouted a question to her husband on the other side of the room, as she was not allowed to speak to other men.

This type of behavior caused much disruption during worship and learning services and Paul had to address proper behavior.
He wrote and told the women to not speak (question) during church, but to wait and ask any questions of their husbands after they returned home.

The pagens on the other hand, had to learn that women were not the only ones who could teach and preach, so Paul had to address this concern of the congregation. Paul told the former pagens to "suffer not" the women to teach. You will find that it means that they were told to start learning and teaching themselves and not put the burdon solely upon the females. He also had to tell them that they needed to change their style of "head covering" hair. The women should cover their heads with hair and be and look like women, not men. The men were told to look like men and not try to look like women.

This was all happening very early on in the life of the church, long before denominations and religions. Paul was trying to get all of them to give up old ways and thoughts and to focus entirely on the word of God and the savior that had just died to free them all of the sin debt that they owed.

The lesson for us in all this is still the same today as it was then. Give up the things in our worldly culture that tend to take our eyes off the word of God. Focus on Gods good news and the history leading up to that good news.

Now a days, stating a man is the only one who can teach the word of God is just as bad as in the early church when the former pagens thought a woman was the only one who could be a priestess or teacher. Believing in God, but acting as if you belong to the world is as wrong today as it was when Paul had to write that letter to the church as Corinth.
