Hello,
I want to stay in New York from 30 December, checking out on the 1st of January, but the hotels are all coming up as too expensive. I'm looking for a nice 4 star or up hotel near times square so I can walk to see the ball drop...any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

****EDIT****

Bluedevil- I appreciate the advice, but the Hampton Inn is only a 2 star and I don't want to be staying in a dump.

Also, I've been looking at some of the parking rates at these hotels and they are going for maybe $50 a night...this is rediculous, is there a 4 star near times square that has parking free?

If not, is there one in another area of manhattan that offers free Parking, and if so, where can I park at times square to watch the ball drop?

Depends what your definiation of "near" is. Try Jersey

A four star hotel in Times Square on New Years Eve for less than a hundred dollars. Anna Nichol Smith will be elected president before you can find that hotel.

Forget the hotel - just come to New York on a train, watch the ball and go home.

Sorry, but you don't have a very realistic view of costs in midtown Manhattan. You are not going to get a four star for $100 or less anytime, much less over New Years Eve. Simple economics here - limited supply plus huge demand equals extremely high prices. Usually in the $400-$500/night range is more realistic if you're going to insist on four stars, and thats if you plan much further ahead.

I'm gonna say the time machine is your best bet. There is no way to get anything under 250 a night in NYC around this time of year and 4 stars is gonna run you wayyyyy more. Sorry. This city is much more expensive than a lot of people realize.

Unfortunately, you won't even find a roach infested hotel anywhere near NYC during New Years or at any time for under $100. What planet are you from?

You cant find any thing for that rate and specially around new years time, parking your car could cost you around a 100$ on the new years eve, forget the hotelroom.

never going to happen. not even if it wasn't a holiday. not to be mean or something, but i doubt you'll find it, unless you go with a friend, stay in a one bed room, and split all the costs in half. i am being totally sincere. i lived in NJ, and it is impossible to even find one there near the bridge on New Year's Eve. you can still keep trying, though.
