You need to speak with your doctor or your guidance counselor at school if you're still a student. They can help you work through your emotions or direct you to a therapist who can help you see things more clearly. Your doctor can also decide whether an anti-depressant is right for you. I know it's hard and maybe even embarrassing, but you aren't going to get better if you aren't honest with the people who can help you--and the sooner you take care of this, the sooner you can move on with a bright future.

Anti-depressants can be helpful, but there are side effects, especially at your age. You'll have to weigh the risks with whoever is prescribing them.

anti depressants do help people who are usually clinically depressed. that means that they have an organic depression and no matter what they do, they cannot feel better without medications. i don't think anti depressants may be the choice for you. you may be depressed because of your loss and financial situation. you are only 17 and you have a whole life to live, but you also have to put some effort into it. seeing a mental health professional probably is a good idea. there is nothing wrong with being on medications, but i think you should explore other avenues first. if you talk about the causes of you depression with a professional person, then that might solve your problems, without medications good luck to you. i think with a little help you will feel better

Antidepressants don't make you feel better, they just raise your base level so you can cope a little bit better. If you have a chemical imbalance they can greatly improve your quality of life, but they aren't happy pills.
Your depression sounds like it could be circumstancial, so a talking therapy like conselling and other self-help treatments like diet and exercise would be likely to improve things for you.
Try and stay focused on making yourself happier, and if things get worse or you feel you can't cope - talk to your doctor.

As previous answerers have mentioned, antidepressants aren't a easy option - they take between 2 weeks and 2 months to work, and can have very serious side effects. Stopping taking antidepressants can also cause problems. I've had several bad reactions to some antidepressants, and have yet to find one that helps very much. I take antidepressants as without them I cannot get out of bed in the morning - I cannot work, sleep properly, dress, wash, cook, clean or take care of myself. Without them, live isn't worth living.

why have you fallen out with your friend ,have you tried to talk to this friend sort things out ,this has to be a trigger to the way you feel ,is there a way you can speak to this friend surely its something you can put right if you were best friend then this friend may also be feeling urt ,they might not show it to you as you wouldnt want to to them but all the same it must hurt them to ,tell this friend you are sorry or just say how you feel you will be surprised how easy friends can be got back ,so try and think of a way to approach this friend and just speak, thats all you have to do but talk with passion ,let then see just how much their friendship means to you ,then after trying this if you still feel the same see a doctor ,but i feel that if you could get yourfeind back you wouldnt feel depressed anymore ,please try and help yourself before taking pills ,you might not need them ,and at 17 your hormones are running wild ,so any little upset could make you feel this way try and get control of yourself first ok ,god bless you ,,,kat

yes anti depressants do help. You are experiencing a low serotonin level and the anti depressants would help raise that level for you. I should know because I have been on prozac and now I am on zoloft which works so much better than prozac at least for me.

Make sure you have a serious problem before you go searching for medication. Anti-depressents aren't always the right thing and in some cases can increase depression and lead to suicide.

Yes, they can help. The best thing you can do is go to the doctor, there could be something else you could do. You can get come counselling or something before resorting to drugs. I hope things work out.

Go to your doctor and tell him or her all this stuff. Yes, antidepressants do help, but they might not be what you need. It really does depend on a lot of factors, and only a doctor can really decide what is right for you.

personally, i dont think anti depressants are good for everybody, i would suggest you contact a therapist to talk somebody about your problems. i went through a similiar situation when i was in high school, and talking to someone about what i was going through seemed to help me. the anti-depressants the doctor prescribed to me, didnt help my situation.....it worsened them.....but for some people, they work great! so just talk to someone about what youre going through, good luck to you, and if you need anybody to talk to, you can always talk to me.
