I think u shud ask questions to find out what he wants and buy it. Or u could just give him the money so he can get what he wants. Or if u wanna try the freaky approach, try some edible massage oil or stuff like that. I wud go wit the last idea tho!;)

Tickets!! The guys in my life love when I buy them tickets. I just brought my fiance to the symphony for his birthday; I've given my dad tickets for Ron White and some stupid dinner show in Orlando. I got the idea from a men's magazine. It said that was the preferred gift of men...and after my experiences, it's true.

This sounds silly, but buy him some really slick looking shoes. Men usually have no style when it comes to shoes. So go to a Macy's or whatever dept. store is near you and buy him nice shoes.

My way was I got my girl's gift because we would start conversations and somehow find ways to know what she likes. I can't wait to give her the gift I got her.
My advice start a conversation and try to lead him to tell you what he likes.
