If you are in the neighborhood, I definitely recommend stopping in to try a signature tossed salad -- it is amazing. Their salad dressings and soups are also quite tasty. Lunch time can get a little crazy, so if you're looking for a place to sit for a while, I would recommend between 2pm and 4pm.

Healthiest - that's a hard one - it depends what you order. But, the ones my oh so very vegan friend likes are:

Angelica Kitchen, 300 East 12th Street;
Candle 79, 154 East 79th Street;
Kates Joint, 58 Avenue B;

I really like these restaurants (I'm not a vegetarian, but these are healthy)

BLT Fish, 21 West 17th Street;
Tsampa, 212 East 9th Street (this is one of few Tibetan restaurants in the city - natural foods - the shitake mushroom pancake is awesome;
Desi Junta (Indian vegetarian on Tenth Avenue and 48th Street)
