the most important thing for improving is in the mind of the photographer.
before you take a photo, take a look at the area, look at the qulality of light(is it bright? is it direct or dim, direct or reflected.)see if there are any point of interest and /or converging lines.
with all these in mind compose your picture.(yes! a good picture is designed or composed b4 hand.) so in your mind there needs to be some effect that you want.
focus- decide if you want to focus just on the main subject and make the rest out of focus- this can be done by using a wide aperture, or if you want to make everything sharp.
if possible position your subjects in the most pleasing manner instead of letting pose in a haphazzard manner.
use the rule of thirds to position your subjects.
be aware of proportions in terms of lines and subject or subject and background.
regular patterns may also help inyour compositions.
but the most of all -enjoy yourself and experiment.
happy shooting.
God bless,
gabe.

get the camera in a good position and 'click' it is over. you could practice with a digital camera and see if the picture is good or not when you think your ready to go to the next level you can. aim the camera at the thing you are going to take a picture of try to get it to the middle, or where ever you want it to go on the picture. it will turn out great!

Pay attention to your rule of thirds, focus, get a good SRL camera, mind your lighting, learn your basic dark room techniques (dodging, burning, etc.) Finally, get Photoshop, and learn how to manipulate your photos.
