What is your ultimate goal?

If it is to preserve the finish and keep it from tarnishing, cover it with a paste wax and buff it to a shine. You will have to reapply the wax periodically -- the frequency will depend on how much use it gets and it's exposure to weather and humidity.

The upside is wax is cheap, it leaves a clear finish so you can see the beauty of the metal, and it is removable if you don't like it. It isn't permanent, and it won't change the bronze a bit.

I use car wax, the paste kind, but there is probably a special (more expensive) version for furniture.

wax, like suzikew says. or any number of clear coat applications from spar varnish to epoxies.

or nothing at all, and let it get that marvelous natural patina on it from use and time...and weather (outside?).
