they were very heavy is one problem and the tracks were small so they really didnt offer a lot more in traction

as suspension technology has improved they are finding it easier to use tires theres not really any current armor aside from tanks that use tracks these days.. also tracks are difficult to repair quickly if a track blows off in no mans land you are almost better off abandoning the equipment. tires can be changed a lot easier and the thick rubber walls can be driven on if necessary

They served a good purpose at the time, and now we use other veicals as troop transport, one version had a 25 pounder cannon in the back,a very early version of mobile arty. They all did the job well but tended to need alot of track maint. Alot of equip we have today is anfib, the half track would sink like a stone if fell threw ice and would need bridges to cross water obstacles.

I've heard the IDF kept some old M8's until well past their service life. The U.S. simply came up with better designs for the same range of jobs. The M113, for instance, can carry troops as well and has a roof, which is reassuring when bullets are flying. The Bradley and Stryker can be thought of as offspring of the old halftrack.

Actually some of them served in Korea as well. Basically though they became obsolete and were heavily maintanance intensive. It made little sense to continue using them after better designs such as the M113, The stryker, and the Bradley came about.

We use a vehicle called a Stryker now. These are much more technically advanced vehicle. The half tracks performed well, but the tracks required much more maintennance. The stryker is a much more capable vehicle

They went to full tracks. Got them there in half the time.

Advancements. It became obsolete. New models made for the same purpose are more reliable, and cost less in the long run.

Well the halftrack was last used in Korea.

The only reason I know is we wanted newer and better. vehicles.
Israel still uses the halftrack.
