I have recently dumped IE7 in favour of Mozilla Firefox and I couldn't be happier, it's faster, more reliable, more flexible, and easier to use. However when ever I open my hotmails in MSN messenger I get an IE window instead of a firefox one, it isn't the biggest problem in the world but it would be nice to cut my computer's last ties to IE. Anyone know how to do this?

MSN (or indeed Windows Live) messenger doens't use the default browser to take you to hotmail: it forces IE to open.

I don't know a way round it, unless someone has written a patch to solve it.

In the meantime you could look at the MailMan add-on to Firefox. That will alert you (in Firefox) of any new Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or GMail messages, and take you straight to your account page... In Firefox.

As MSN / Windows Live Messenger is a "Microsoft" product, it is more likely to use a "Microsoft" browser. No easy fix, unless there is a settings in Settings

Have a look for a patch, may be one on http://www.mess.be
