Does anyone think that the money should be used for birth control instead (it would solve the orphan problem)?

If you will go to the website arumc.org and look for the umcor information. I guarantee you can get it to Africa or to a college like Philander Smith. Merry Christmas and thank you.

Well let me tell you something. These orphans are not unwanted children, their parents may have been killed by the Janjaweed. If you don't know, there is a genocide going on in the Darfur region of Sudan. Since the Janjaweed burn any town/village, people have to live in makeshift tents made of plastic bags, trash, and sticks for support. Most of the men are killed fighting or just killed, so the women are left taking care of children and gathering food, which takes them to the edges of forests and into them. The Janjaweed gangs are located in forests, and so when these women are gathering food, they are at risk for being captured and gang-raped, sometimes kept for months as sex slaves or killed and under going torture you can't imagine. This leaves children to fend for themselves. As you can see, this is a major issue. A genocide is happening and not many people know about it. So I'm sure your money would be put to good use. And if this charity that is asking for money isn't giving it to orphans in Darfur, I still think it would be of use because these children are alive now, and although it would be beneficial to prevent unwanted pregnacies in the future by birth control, these children are here now. Consider that. Have a good day.

used to be asked at school for donations to alot of places including africa depends on the form of birth control if its a pill to make men shoot blanks or women to not make eggs then yes I'm all for it but if its just to send more condoms and plan B pills which we do already and still the orphans keep coming then no keep the money here and use it for our own orphans

I have not been asked. I dont think that birth control would help, the US sends billions of free condoms over there and still more orphans.

AGREEABLE. People are leaving their child(ren) elsewhere. I think that's wrong and it's very sad too. (That's why when I get older I am going to adopt a child)
