My wife thinks milk for protein and I think juice for vitamins.
Assume they get one cup of milk at bed and they drink some juice through the day.

Dilute the pure fruit juice with water or it is too strong. Also too much fruit juice is bad for teeth enamel -especially in sippy cups.
How old is child,let them choose when to have milk/ OJ ?If they can understand to have one of each a day....

Milk is the natural food for babies at the breast. Cereals such as corn flakes, with milk, will provide vitamins, minerals such as calcium, and a bit of protein. I would advocate, however, a breakfast of cereal or porage with hot milk, followed by a rasher or two of bacon or a decent sausage, with grilled tomatoes or sauteed mushrooms. Get your children used to a cooked breakfast. The fats that come from a rasher or two of bacon, or a decent sausage, will provide satiety. A glass of fruit juice is an excellent accompaniment to a light, cooked breakfast.

Milk alone, is unbalanced. So is fruit juice, alone. Both will cause blood sugar levels to leap about.

The light, cooked breakfast is the answer from about 4 years old onwards. It builds good eating habits at a time of age when such habits can be sedimented in the mind. Most type 2 diabetes in older people (35 plus) has been attributed to the habit of skipping breakfast, and relying on sugary tea, coffee and fast food at lunchtime for sustenance. Such practice introduces nutrients in inbalance. Get your child on the right track, now.

If you cannot cook a light breakfast for your child, alter your lifestyle! You are setting him/her up for life!!!

I think juice - esp. orange (and you can also buy orange juice with added calcium). Some may argue that juice has sugar but it is all-natural, assuming you're buying 100% pure juice. Your body handles natural sugars better than artificial ones. Also, vitamin C is such a powerhouse, we cannot get enough of it! And previous poster is correct, often times the child will be getting milk in his/her cereal. If they are not eating cereal, have them eat something with protein ie eggs.

They say for the healthiest diet, fruit first thing in the morning helps flush the system and prepares the stomache for heavier things. Too much milk is not such a good thing as it is mucus producing (a lot of people get dairy allergies)!! I usually start my kids day off with a glass of fresh juice .. then a little later cereal with a little milk!

Milk.

Give fresh fruit.....100% fruit juice is better than juice cocktails but there are still significant amounts of sugars. I do not recommend coconut as previously suggested due to the fats and cholesterol.

Try 1% milk for your kids.......

Both are important but I would tend to give them juice at breakfast cos it sits easier in the tummy when you're active, milk can be a bit heavy too early in the morning and some people have some trouble digesting it.

not sure about milk and protein, there can be a lot of fat in milk and not that much calcium. I would say fuit juice is better, but they should always rinse or brush their teeth afterwards due to the high acid levels. Banana and coconut juice is my current tropical favourite

Juice. They're probably already having milk with their breakfast, so get the best of both worlds.

the natural sugar in the juice MAY make your kids a little hyper (it does with mine), whereas the natural sugar (lactose) in the milk won't. the milk has both natural sugar (energy) and the protein in it, which is the most ideal, but hey you could always trade off or give them juice and then some low fat deli meat or something with protein in it.
