"Afraid of God"?
What makes you think that lying for your religion does you or it any good? And if you don't like religious freedom, you can feel free to move to Afghanistan with your Taliban brothers.

I am a former Methodist who definitely read the Bible during my 30+ years as a Christian. However, during a difficult time in my life, I started to read the Bible for comfort, advice, and answers - and found none of those things. The more I read, the less sense it made. I understood EXACTLY what was in the Bible. I just reached a point where it became totally unbelievable - and at that point, simultaneously became totally useless. That was when my eyes opened to reality - and reality does NOT include God. I now have realized that the Bible is just like Aesop's Fables and Grimm's Fairy Tales. It is a collection of stories that you would tell children sitting around a campfire in a nomadic village or around a fireplace in a more stable village. Kids didn't have TV, radio, CDs, DVDs, or much of anything else at night so the village storyteller would tell them the mythology of their people. Those stories were meant to amaze, amuse, and socialize the kids. The stories included some "the boogeyman will get you" themes as well as the reward themes. But ALL of the stories are fictional. ALL of them. By the way, most of the atheists here don't say that they can't understand the Bible. What they say that they don't understand is how anyone with even passable intelligence could BELIEVE the myths of the Bible. THAT is what they don't understand. Your "95% of atheists don't understand the Bible" number is bogus and I challenge you on it.

>> Why are Atheists so afraid of God
To be scared of something I don't believe exists is preposterous. That's like saying I'm scared of unicorns because the idea of a single-horned horse scares me.
>> intimidated by religion?
I'm not intimidated by religion either. I'd argue the opposite - believers are the ones who are intimidated by religion - intimidated to fall in line or 'face the consequences.'
>> Everyone has a right to thier own beliefs. Even Atheists
Agreed. But just because you hold something dear, doesn't mean that belief is beyond criticism. You have every legal right to believe anything you want - doesn't mean I have to regard your belief as infallible truth just because you say so.
>> So why is it that they are trying to destroy our faith in God so often by taking everything we do to court.
I assume you're speaking about the U.S. Here's why. Whenever the government is entangled in religion, it violates a part of your constitution. Here, I'll read it to you:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"
So, when the government entangles istelf with religion (such as public recitation of prayer in schools, putting the ten commandments in a court room, etc.) violates this very clearly stated part of the constitution.
However, you too have a right:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Exercise_Clause_of_the_First_Amendment
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
So! You're free to exercise your religion in your private home, your private church, heck your private business if you wish.
---
>> Why do christians allow them to take away our rights?
Rights to what, exactly? You have a right to do whatever you want in your private homes, church, and business. You just can't do it on government property or in any organization that is given money by the government. Which one of your rights is being trampled here exactly?

This is silly in the extreme.
You have a twisted version of reality.
I, as an atheist, am not afraid of something that does not exist.
I, as an athiest, am not intimidated by any religion, other than the one that murders innocent people in its name.
I, as an atheist, am not taking away anyone's rights. You can believe that the moon is made of cheese and that the world is flat and that the sun revolves around the earth and that Santa Claus is real, etc, etc, etc if you like. Just don't force all this nonsense on your children and perpetuate the myth.
Today's beliefs in a man-made god will eventually go the way of Thor and Zeus and Ra ...
WAKE UP!!!

Absolutely correct: everyone has a right to their own beliefs.
It would seem a historical corollary that everyone has the right to proselytize them as well and seek new converts.
Is your God fearful of the ideas marketplace? well considering that one thing that Judaism, Islam and Christianity agree on is that any apostate must be killed, I would say so.
Secondly and more importantly we live in a secular culture in the West and the rest of the developed world. It is the religious that have persecuted atheists for most of our history - including using so-called "obscenity laws" to punish what they consider blasphemy.
Deal with it...as education improves and science advances, belief falls by the wayside. Fundamentalists of all religions and creeds are breathing the last gasps of the Dark Ages.
you'd better hope the rapture comes soon, otherwise He may be out of a job!
Finally, we resent that public money is used to promote private beliefs.
Don't pray in my school and I won't think in your church. Deal?

Atheists are typically not "afraid of God", though they may appear 'brusque' to believers because what they are doing is the equivalent of trying to convince small children there is no "tooth fairy". Consequently, while what they are doing is fundementally beneficial to mankind, they cannot help but appear to be "spoilers".
God isn't there. He's just an invention to account for how inconveniently unpleasant "real life" can be for some poor buggers.
Asjk a Christian to explain childhood cancer, doubtless they will tell you "God works in mysterious ways". Any God who would take the child of a devout Christian couple as a "test of their faith" clearly cares nothing about the child, the parents, or anyone else!

Have you ever opened a History book? Even today, 'we' had to make a huge deal out of getting a phrase taken out of the pledge that NEVER should have been there in the first place! And that was as recently as thee '50's! 'In God We Trust' is still on our currency and a lot of people still think creationism is a science and should be taught in school, even though there's no scientific evidence to go by.
The only 'rights' taken away from anyone are the flaws people later realize they never should have had in the first place. What 'rights' do you think are being taken away? Abortion is still an issue even though it is clear that there are those who will never believe/think someany Christian who gets pregnant has the right to have a baby. They just don't have the 'right' to tell anyone who disagrees with them what they should do. How insulting! Go to Iran and see what having your rights taken away is really like!

First of all ,STOP GENERALIZING....
I have never gone to court over anything you Christians have done .Many Atheists were once Christians, but we WISED Up to the SCAM. As long as you " Christians " taunt us and defile us we will defend ourselves. If you would just STOP slandering and judging us ,there might be some relief .You cause most of your own problems by going around and pushing your beliefs on others .There is nothing to SAVE us from ,So give it a break .

I believe atheists only take issues to court when they feel like their rights are being ignored or infringed upon. For example, Gay Marriage is not something that takes away your rights, but it infringes upon other people's.
You are completely right in saying everyone has their own right to believe what they want, however, people of religion have to stop pushing their beliefs (laws) on people that disagree with them.

Atheists can't destroy something that has no integrity to begin with.
It takes faithful followers to struggle with holding it up.
Atheists just think it is foolish to artificially keep something alive that is long dead.
No matter who's hand is inside the puppet, that puppet will never be a human. Just ask Geppetto.

Why do you assume that Atheists are afraid of your god? Atheists DON'T BELIEVE IN YOUR GOD.
Why is that so hard to understand? Do you have so little brain power that you can't understand the meaning of a word?
It has nothing to do with fear and everything to do with thinking your god and your religion are the products of a delusional mind.
As for intimidated, sorry buddy, your religion doesn't intimidate anyone. What it does is anger people that the followers can't learn to keep their bloody religion to themselves and try to push through their religion as secular law.
