Someone once said to me that she's praying for the dead to make it to heaven and she was "dead" serious. I was like, Uh, isn't it a bit too late for that person in the grave to do something about trying to make it to heaven? We got one shot and we might as well make it the best while we're living and can do something about it. AND, how can a dead person pray... (Mary mother of Jesus please pray for me?)

Why not just pray to God? What's with all pray to the dead stuff? Insane to me.

I agree, that would be against the bible. Catholics don't have it all right but neither do we.

Your question is confusing. If someone died & went to hell, we could pray till our heads fell off and it wouldn't help the person in hell. We need to pray for those who are alive that they come to Gods saving grace.

If a person died and went to a place of rest, we can pray to God for that persons salvation. Some people died, but never rejected Gods salvation message because it never was preached to them accurately.

Jesus Christ is the mediator between God and man. So, to pray to others in heaven before God could be idolatry. I do believe that there are Christians in heaven, loved ones who have died before, interceding for us. We, as Christians, go to Jesus Christ first, & He directs us to things / people spiritual of His Kingdom.

I am sure that Mother Mary is in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ.

In some belief systems, the dead are still active beings in our realm. The dead (spirits) can help us with day to day life, and we can pray to them for guidance, help, and miracles. The Saints are a Christian example of this practice of praying to the dead. The dead can in turn pray to God (or whoever) on your behalf. They aren't non existent...they just exist spiritually in another realm.

Jesus Christ said that those who follow Him will "NEVER DIE". Do you believe Him? If so, then why do you speak of those in heaven as "dead"? The Apostles referred to biological death as "falling asleep", because they believed the words of Christ. So do I. Therefore, if holy followers of Christ who have passed away are alive, as Jesus said they are, then why wouldn't I ask them to pray for me, just as I ask other living Christians on earth to do so??
