This is a test by the teacher to see the inventiveness of the student.

It is very common for teachers of all grade levels to incorporate this line of study into the class plans to gage potential creativity problems in students, and to allow for more comprehensive guide for their study teams......
Creative, with logical students during studies.

the question is......"what can this student come up with when given a VERY BROAD set of instructions."

there are no wrong answers.

for instance, one of my students came with a coathanger (wire hanger) and stated his invention "The ghetto antenna, The 101 uses repair toolkit, The editalbe branding iron, and the Universal Slim Jim lock picking tool.

Let your child discover a new way of thinking (outside the box)

9-year-olds can be inventive. leave it to her!

tell her to think of something she doesn't like or wish was easier and to start there. what would make it easier? what would make it faster? what would take less effort? how could you make it cheaper? what would it be made out of?

this is her project, but you can ask the right questions and help her get some ideas out.

whatever you do don't call that 800 invention number i hear they are a rip-off. go get a patent and start from there.
