Absinthe is banned by the FDA and is on Customs' list of prohibited items. However it is not a scheduled substance.

So it can not be sold in the US and it can be confiscated by customs if found.
If bringing it on a plane yourself Do Not do what some suggest and refill a scope bottle with it. While importing absinthe is against regulations the most that has ever happened is the lose of the bottle. Lying to customs by putting it in a scope bottle is a felony.

It can be bought online but I would suggest researching what you are buying as there are some scam vendors and many fake products sold as "real absinthe."

The thujone levels in commercially distilled absinthe in Germany must be 30mg/l or much less. Absinthe is a "prohibited" merchandise and is situation to being seized by using the US Customs. It can be brought in because I've done it myself. I brought a bottle from London Gatwick airport through Cincinatti and finally to Salt Lake where I drank it later that night. As far as taking it out of the US... I don't know why anyone would do that in the first place since it is not produced here.

Yes it can, and the rules have been relaxed somewhat. There is still a legitimate concern about the stuff, but it's nowhere near the dreadful health threat once claimed...those threats were postulated by prohibitionists who think drinking is a sin.

It can be be brought into the country and drank here legally. You just cannot buy it here. I dont understand this thought process, but it works for me because I have bought a few bottles myself. So you can import and have it shipped legally.

you can buy it over the net (below sites).
they label the package as "spirits" for US customs
you are really at risk though, it is illegal to buy for consumption, but legal to buy for a collectors item.
You won't get in trouble if customs searched your package, they will just simply empty the contents and send you the empty bottle.

hope this helps you! : )

I think it'd probably be easy... unless your bag was subject to one of those random searches but otherwise...no it can't. It's illegal and considered bootlegging. I don't know that you'd get into too much trouble. You could play it off like you had no idea it was illegal.
