I got caught driving my car about six months ago without a license or valid insurance. (I own the car but only my wife is insured and licensed to drive it) I received a letter informing me of my impending court date next month a few days ago....... and then today I got caught driving the car again under the same circumstances!! I know I’m an idiot and very very stupid not to have taken my test but money has been very tight and....... I have no real reasons I’ve just been an idiot. I'm after sensible informative answers please as my wife is currently going through a course of IVF and I am very scared that I might be going to prison at this critical time in both our lives.

If you are in California, I seriously doubt you go to jail for this. It's a victimless crime. I would say you'll get hit with substantial fines and penalties so the courts can show they are serious. But jail time should not even be an issue.

Get a bicycle, take public transit or walk until you get this issue straightened out. Think of this as a teaching moment - you will learn to keep your license current and to get insurance.

Grow up and show some responsiblity - your wife doesn't need you spending your free time with the local magistrate.

Driving without a license and insurance is a serious offense. They have commercials about it all the time. But it does look like you will be going to do some jail time.

Depending on what you got stopped for, you may just get a heafty fine and not get a license until you're 100
