I went to my hairdresser the other day and she has been encouraging me to grow out my bangs. I'm 38 y.o. But my forehead is huge! She said I look too much like a "schoolgirl" like I am trying to look young. She said women over 30 should not wear bangs. Actually I look pretty young for my age many people say I look 10-15 years younger than I am. Anyway, I wear bangs mainly to hide my forehead, I tried growing out my bangs once and I looked horrible. What do you all think???

I would tell your hairdresser to shove her opinions straight up her ***. It is her job and you pay her to do what you want. I am 34 and I have also been told women over 30 should not wear their hair longer than their shoulders. Give me a break. I will wear my hair, which I do about 2 inches below my shoulder and like you I have to have bangs to cover my forehead which is the size of a small ***!! LOL

If you look good with bangs, then by all means wear it that way. Do not let society or a hairdresser tell you what to do to feel and look your best. You could grow your bangs out a little....mine are almost to my brow, but not cut thick like a schoolgirl. They are a little more wispy and I can style my hair to wear them or push them off to the side...depending on the style I am needing.

Good luck and tell your hairdresser you pay her to make you look your best and what YOU want, not what she thinks you need.

This is old but in case anyone new reads it...keep the bangs. I'm 35, and I have full mid-eyebrow (not blunt tho) bangs. I also have a huge forehead. I started to grow mine out but honestly I look younger and better with them, and they've kinda become a trademark. So I say keep the bangs and get a hairstylist that doesn't think like its 1952.

It really does depend on the shape of your face. If you have a small forehead you probably don't need to try bangs. But if you have a long forehead bangs are probably a good decision. I really don't think it should matter about age, what should matter is how you think you look w/ them. And if you haven't noticed, bangs are making a comeback now! Many stars have had bangs lately like Nelly Furtado and Gwen Stefani! And they are both in their 30's

I don't think the age matters...it's the cut that matters. There are bangs are definately a NO. But side-swept bangs are awesome with some haircuts. Hey, look at Samantha on Sex and the City. She had bangs in every season of the show, is over 30, and looks awesome! Go to the link below to see how she wore them.

Ya but some bangs no one should wear! Bangs that are on the side of your face are fine any one can wear those, but forehead bangs are more like babies first haircut some people look good in short bangs and others don't it really just depends on the haircut!

I understand. I'm 36 and get mistaken for 25 all the time. I grew out my bangs at about 28 and it did look horrible.... for awhile. I had to learn to look at myself without them, and then I had to learn how to style my hair without them. That could be part of your problem. My daughters got their father's high forhead. It's the most dominant gene in the genepool, I guess. None of them wear bangs though. Even with the high forhead, it can look beautiful. The trick is in how to blowdry. It looks best when parted on the side in an uneven part and then the first inch or so of hair on both sides blowdries forward to the side of your face and all else dries back. Is that clear as mud?

Having said that I think you CAN grow them out once you get used to it (that one stage of it is horrible though!) but there are lots of cute shorter styles that use bangs in front. Just make sure your bangs are whispy and mature and not long, straight down the front schoolgirl bangs.

Great Christy Brinkly picture above! You can get away with that SO easily!

You should wear your hair in a way that makes you feel good and pretty. It should work with the texture of your hair, and be easy to style and manage. Anything else, will be a pain in the butt and a disappointment. Use yoru stylists advice to stay up on trends, but you ahve to wear the cut, so use your good judgement as well. I think that bangs look good on some people, and bad on others. A lot depends on your face shape, not your age! Age is just a number. Looking classy and being confident in yourself is the key.

I understand looking younger than your real age and I also understand wanting to cover your forehead. However, there are different styles of bangs that are best suited for different types of people. Perhaps you should consider doing longer, side-swept bangs that cover your forehead but also look more stylish and age-appropriate than say, short bangs that go all across. Hope this helps :)

Age has notthing to do with it. If you know you have a big forehead than ignore her. Let me ask you this, Does your hairdresser have a big forehead? If not than you already know what looks good on you. Some people think that what looks good on them can look good on you but that is a lie. So wear your bangs honey because I agree with you. If you have a big forehead than you probably need to wear bangs.

I definitely think you should go with whatever you feel most comfortable in. If you like to rock the bangs, then rock them girl! If you feel like you need a change, then grow them out. Just be sure that you are happy with the way you look, that's the most important thing.
