I've just got a new computer- it has Windows Media Player 11, or maybe 10?? Whatever it is- I don't like it. And it's packaged with something called Urge- which I can't seem to get ride of. How can I change it to Media Player 9? Thanks, Dungeonwarlock

How does it bother you? Just leave it there and use vlc player(www.videolan.org) which supports almost all formats. This is so far the best versatile media player ever.

If you still want to fix your media player, I recommend that you download the windows media player 11 from MS website again. then during install look for any custom option to get rid of that Urge or whatever. But MS makes bloated software and thats why i doubt if you can do it or not. I just always try to use less MS product as possible. Right now I only use MS windows xp and nothing else.

Browser: Opera(www.opera.com)
Email: Eudora or Thunderbird
Media Player: VLC and real alternative player( I hate real player too)
Office: open Office
Image editor: Gimp, Photofiltre
Cd burner: cdburnerxp pro
Video editor: virtual dub
audio editor: audacity
Firewall:zonealarm
spyware/adware: spybot and adaware se
antivirus: AVG or avira

Just stay away from MS if you can. So bloated and disgusting.

I think you have windows media player 11. You can download to player 10. It's better than 11 I think.

This is what urge is...

http://www.urge.com/

If it is not in your Add and Remove program list...

Start>My Computer>Local Disk C>Programs files> delete the folder. Now run a registry cleaner to clean up what is left. I use RegScrubXP.

Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

I don't think 9 is available for xp machines anymore, you can try to search it but I only came up with a version for win98 ME and 2000
