If there was even a reasonable amount of the slightest proof of hell, it would be enough for most people to be good. Since it is utterly ridiculous (based on scientific evidence, no offense intended) to believe in hell, it has to be portrayed as a scary scary place, with eternal fire and gnashing of teeth, etc. Otherwise, no one would give it a second thought because it would be a ridiculous idea to them. As it stands, it is a ridiculous idea, but the fact that christians portray hell as such a scary and terrible place causes people to become religious in self defense, which is not a good reason to be religious at all. Especially since a truly omnipotent god would see through the bs.

Your thoughts...?

Side note to whoever made the comment about Al Gore.

I know you're a republican but try to follow me here okay? I'll try to keep it simple. Al Gore never said that he invented the internet. He said that he played a role in the creation of the internet, which is unquestionably true. Al was one of the senators involved in the committee that decided to form the internet. Thus, he played a ROLE in the creation of the internet yes. If he and the other senators hadn't held their committee, i wouldn't be able to verbally slap you around right now....

Hell is so scary because Christian, Muslims, et al, made it that way. It has to be scary so these various faiths can exercise control over their flocks of sheep (also so they can feel smug about none believers).

If God was the all-knowing, all-loving entity that he is portrayed to be, he would not condemn anyone to anything. IF (big IF) there is a hell, we put ourselves there.

"If there was even a reasonable amount of the slightest proof of hell, it would be enough for most people to be good."

Most people do good. I don't see murderers walking the streets every few minutes.

We don't die, or bodies do. Paul describes the body as 'merely a tent to house our souls'. Our souls move on to paradise or torment.

"Since it is utterly ridiculous (based on scientific evidence, no offense intended) to believe in hell"

There are 400 scriptures/prophecies about hell. Hell is 4,000 (or 8000 i forgot) miles within Earth's core. Hell isn't scary, it's utterly disgusting. Every sense of the human body is at it's worst magnified 1000 times.

It smells putrid, disgusting.
It's so hot you would disenigrate, but you don't. You have to endure it.
You can't sleep.
It's completely dark.
The demons hate God, and you.
Pain is magnified 1000x
You are 1000x weaker, and the demons that torment you are 1000x stronger than men.
It is huge and there are billions of people in the lake of fire.
There is no presence of God.

It is God's desire that no man goes to that place.

He has offered eternal life to everyone. Billions have refused to accept it and paid the price for thier own sin. God offered to take the sin.

Hell is a place designed for demons, satan, and fallen angels.

It's amazing how ignorant people can be then, huh?

The word hell comes from the name hades and in many of the original scriptures the name hades was used instead of hell. Hades is the ruler of the underworld or the left hand of correction which we presently dwell under of. Basically hell is a condition that separates man from God or how the younger son was held prisoner of the far away country in the parable the prodigal son. Until one is willing to let go of the mindset and lifestyle of this world and walk the narrow path that Yeshua presented then you will continue to be ruled by the God of this world.

When the scriptures were handed over to the gentiles they were quickly corrupted. And since they were alienated from their soul self, they only had the ability to understand the literal portion of the scriptures or the letter that killeth. During the time of Rome, rulers used the ignorance of mankind to keep rule over him. Thus making use of stories about fiery hells, a heaven in the sky or even things like purgatory which they said was a in between heaven and hell. Where your relatives had to pay money to ensure you go to heaven.

So there you have it, the Christians who believe in a fiery physical hell are spiritually flat-lined and tied down hand and foot by the ruler of this world. And are unable to turn the scriptures within, so they are bound by their superstitions.

Peace

You're right. God does see through the bs and knows who are truly His. Jesus said "For many will say to me on that day 'Lord, lord have we not done many wonderful works in your name. Haven't we cast out demons in your name.' And I will say to them 'Depart from me. I never knew you. You who work iniquity.'"

To most people Hell is preferred over Heaven. You see, Heaven is where God is. Alot of people do not want to have anything to do with God while they are alive here on earth. They hate his son, and use Jesus' name as a curse word. They do not seek salvation for their sins and prefer to stay in darkness rather than approach the light. If God opened the doors to Hell and said that they were all free to enter Heaven they'd slam the door shut and stay in their misery. The doors to Hell are locked from the inside.

Christians who portray Hell as a horrible place say that because they know God and how good He is. God does not want to send anyone to Hell. But He requires that we repent of our sins and trust Jesus to save us. The most horrible thing about Hell to a Christian is that it is a place without God. And that is why Hell is Hell for true believers.

Because Satan doesn't run it.
"enough for most people to be good"-I disagree. People like to do what they like to do...even if they saw Hell they may be good for a little while but eventually become self-centered again.

I will not even waste my time with the "proofs". Once again, deal with the resurrection of Jesus first.

one thing to consider is, when you accidenty burn your self, you experence the pain from all the heat. immagine swimming around in some thing like that for ever?
also, it is supposed to be a punishment for ever.
Punishment is to teach a lesson for doing wrong., so it won't be repeated.how can some one learn lessions if there is no hope of doing better, due to an eternal sentence. God made us, he knows all, so he knew what we would do before we were born. he new what our choices in life would be... , so why did he let us come to life for?...to fuell the fired of hell????

You're obviously not a sheep...its used to control people...one of the main uses of religion - from the pharaohs of ancient Egypt to the "Divine Right of Kings" which was used to justify a King's authority to the authority of the Pope...Of course there's no hell...its only used to strengthen the church and to herd the sheep (people)

it doesn't scare me one bit. i am not religious, and people make up stuff like that to explain the unexplainable. i totally agree with you...hell is a ridiculous idea. i mean, if we don't remember before we are born, what makes people think we will remember after we are dead. people just can't imagine themselves not "being" and therefore, they think they have to go somewhere, when, really, you no longer exist. its so frustrating talking to someone who is so set on going to heaven/hell because when i try to say that i don't believe in it, they are all like "you'd better watch out." finally, someone who thinks the same way! thank you!

I'm am not afraid of Hell. I'm afraid of not living my life to the fullest while I have breath in my body.

Hell is a fascinating mythological location. I enjoy reading about it, but I do not fear it. No crime, however heineous, is deserving of eternal torment. No just god would condemn people to such a fate.
