Remember to breathe. Breathing exercises are good to do before a performance. Relax and forget about the audience. Think about your notes, every single one. You will be fine.

In a group, I think it is much easier to control nerves. Even if you're the only person singing your part, there is some security knowing that you're not singing a solo. However, if you are still nervous, the number one rule is to BREATHE! Not only is breathing essential for good breath support and maintaining quality tone, but it will help calm you down. Try to breathe through your diaphragm - make sure that when you inhale, your stomach goes out as if it's filling up.

Also, if you're in front of 800-1500 people, remember that at least one of them will think you sounded nice. Very rarely will you find an entire audience of Renee Flemings or Simon Cowells! :)

I hope this helps! Good luck.

PS Don't make eye contact with your audience. Keep your gaze slightly above their heads. It's less nerve-wracking but you won't look silly or stand-offish.

I have never performed in front of a crowd of people but I used to get nervous in front of my school. The thing that helps me the best is to think that I own the floor, they WANT to hear you sing because you are good.
