You know, repenting is a huge part of it because you have to be sincere in order to truly start working towards a better self again. But, you also need to surround yourself with people of the right influence and if it's something you're comfortable talking about, then get it off your chest. Don't keep things bottled up, because no matter how hard some Christians try to act perfect, none of us are. NO ONE! We all need help, we all fail at times and we all make mistakes. It's going to come down to truly being sorry for your sins and wanting to move on in faith. I pray that whatever is going on in your life will become better. God is bigger than any of our problems. We just have to give Him the chance to help us out!

Honey I was in a very backslidden state before I redeicated my life to the Lord. I was fooling around with men as a christian in hopes that I would get married. I compromised my beliefs to make others happy and want to "like me"
But one sunny aftenoon on July 30,1989 at 20 years old I woke up and realized I was wasting my life, my parents spent a lot of time and money on me so that I would be well and it was not fair to them that I would do things to dishonor them, the Lord or myself then and there I pledged myself to the Lord and rededicated my life and make a commitment not to date anymore until God send me my husband.
I am now marrried 13 years to a godly man who is very compassionate and very understanding. My encouragement to you is that the glory is in never falling but rising up every time you fall. We are human and we make mistakes but God is a loving and forgiving God. You come back from backsliding when you realize you need to do things Gods way not your way Isaiah 55:8,
I would encourage you to read your Bible get in a Bible study get counselling if needed spend time in prayer and being in Gods presence.
One thing I have learned there is no mess that you get yourself into that Jesus cant fix and I am living testimony to that amazing grace God bestows on His children.
May the Lord give you the healing and restoration you need to go forward in your walk with the Lord.
Peace be with you,
Encourager4God
PS I will pray for you also Matthew 6:33

Everyone is different and I don't know you, so this advice might not work ... but you asked. There's a lot to Christianity: love, rules, obedience, mass, traditions, etc. I would focus on one or two aspects that appeal the most to you.
For example, I'm not a big fan of what I consider unnecessary, byzantine rules like no eating one hour before mass. I focus on what appeals to me--treating people with love and respect because Jesus asks us to do that. This allows me to agree with other parts, or at least tolerate them.
Whatever you decide, I hope you find peace and joy.

You come back from it by confession (admitting to God what you did) and repentance (spend some time thinking over what you did and being sorry for it, without doing this compulsively and getting morbid over it).
God said, in Isaiah, "Though your sins be scarlet (a red die), they shall be white as snow." (1:18)
Jesus died for all sins, past, present and future, including yours. When you came to Him in the past, He accepted you even knowing everything you would do, including failures.
Look at the story of Peter, who denied the Lord 3 times just before His crucifixion. He was accepted back, lesson learned, and became a major leader of the church.

No idea where that term came from, but I'm assuming that it means ultimately being saved with no "fruits" at the moment. If you look at this from a free will standpoint, one only hopes. However, if God is sovereign then God's will is bound to be worked out either way. Free will theology will say that "bouncing back" involves human effort. God-is-sovereign theology will say that God will work His own will in this person, period, whether through others' admonishments, or other events in this person's life that bring them "back to the fold". I say trust God, He knows what He's doing. But that doesn't mean do nothing.

You do know the answer, i believe that....so, here are some words of encouragement.
The enemy will take our mistakes and use them as a wedge between us and God....he will make us feel unworthy and unable to get back on this thing....my advice to you is step on the enemy's neck.....confess your sin to the Lord, ask for forgiveness, turn from it and then get back on your Walk with Him......the Lord will accept you back and wants you back, but the enemy doesn't want you to feel that way.....my prayer for you is to for you to regain strength and fight past this thing, jump back on and be in this thing for the long run....God Bless....JC

Remember the story of the Prodigal Son. Remember also what happened to Peter after he denied Jesus three times.
The keys are repentance, hope, forgiveness, and restoration.

jmwest nailed it.
Just earnestly tell God you're sorry. Repent, get forgiven, and get back on track with God. The best way to get back up a slide is to go on the ladder you started from.

Repent to God in Jesus Name. Thank God for the blood of the Lamb that covers your sins. When we sin, confess our sin. He is just & faithful to forgive us our sin & cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
