I mean shouldn't you be happy that he went to heaven and celebrate it?

Lets take it a step further..

Why do Christians who believe fully that they're going to heaven, resist death? Why do they get expensive, painful surgery to cure life-threatening illnesses or try to prolong a loved ones life artificially thru medical technology?

First, you have to assume that person went to heaven. It's possible that they've gone to purgatory or even hell, which would be sad indeed.

The main reason for sadness is personal; we will miss that person. Although that might sound a bit selfish, it's based in love for that person so it's acceptable. Besides, many Christian wakes (the informal ceremony after the funeral) are happy occasions where people celebrate the deceased and all the fun & wonderful things he.she gave to us all.

Well if the person that died was a Christian then yes we should be happy but even though we know they are in heaven we still miss them. And if the person that died wasn't a Christain than we are sad because they went to Hell.

It is always hard to be separated from those we love. As a Jehovah's Witness, I know that most of the people I have known will live again on the earth rather than in heaven but I still miss them and truly look forward to seeing them again during the second resurrection and hopefully from then on into forever.

It is sad when someone you love dies, even someone you don't know dies. I was very upset about Steve Irwin dying. He had such a love for life and nature and his family. Having lost my mother at 9, I feel for his children. I cried when my neighbors dog died, sad that he got old and sad because I knew of her loss. That's called natural human affection, compassion and empathy. Jesus cried when Lazarus died even though he knew he would be resurrecting him.

There is a grieving process everyone goes thru, but there is the hope of seeing our loved ones again who are asleep in death, just as Jesus resurrected Lazarus, he'll do it on a grand scale in the future.

Christians get sad for many reasons when someone dies . We are sad because we will miss the person who has died; we are sad if they died an untimely death; we are sad if they suffered before they died; we are sad because we feel compassion for the grieving family who will never again see their loved one. Being sad when someone dies doesn't mean you are not Christian, it just means you have normal feelings of loss and grief. If we are fairly assured that the person has gone on to heaven, joy is intermingled with those feelings of loss.

Because who knows how long it will be before you see them again. I mean I'm glad they're in heaven of course, but it's a very sad thought that I won't be able to see them, call them, know I can talk to them where ever I want to anymore. It's a loss, and I don't see any reason to pretend it's not.

Of course, you will hear many Christians say they are in a better place or with God now. But you still morn the fact that one is not in your life anymore. In the case of a tragic death, many Christians will doubt God and his purpose which is a healthy side of morning. This goes for all religions. No matter what you have faith in, it is human to be upset when a love one is gone. It reminds us that we are human and feel pain. It also shows God's mercy in our ability to heal over time. It reinforces religion by giving us something to believe happens after death, but also the uncertainty of an afterlife.

if they did go to heaven. Others are very hard to handle. One of my non-saved friends died in a car accident recently. That's nothing to be happy about.. God.. My funeral will be a going-away party. The theme will be "See You Soon"

Mourning a loved one is acceptible for the Christian. Jesus wept over Lazarus' death, even though Jesus knew he would raise him. The Bible says "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" and "Weep with those who weep; rejoice with those who rejoice".

The Bible also says we are not to mourn like those who have no hope. This doesn't mean we don't mourn at all; it means though we mourn the loss of a loved one, we also hope to see them again in the afterlife, and rejoice that the person is in heaven with God.
