Peel and slice your potatoes and layer them in a 9x13 glass baking dish. Pour your cream sauce over the potatoes and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Cream sauce recipe below:

Basic Cream Sauce
In a sauce pan melt 4 tablespoons butter over medium low heat. Blend in 6 tablespoons flour until smooth. Cook for 2 minutes but do not allow to brown. Remove from heat and add 1-1/2 cups whole milk, 1/2 tsp black pepper and 1-1/2 tsp salt. Blend until smooth. Use a rubber spatula to remove any flour butter mixture from the sides of the pan. Add 1/2 c finely chopped onion to the mixture. Return to the heat and cook and stir until thickened. Pour over the potatoes. Good luck and happy eating!

One of my favorite dishes, and I can tell you how but, don't have a step by step recipe 'cause I've been doing it so long I just know how. So all measurements are approximate.

8 medium potatoes (about 3 pounds), peeled
1 whole large onion
2 cans (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
about 3/4 cup evaporated (canned ) milk
about 3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Wash & slice potatoes thinly, rinse in cool water. (sometimes I cheat and use "Simply Potatoes" sliced potatoes, cooking time will lessen)
Slice onion into thin rings.
Combine remaining ingredients
Place a layer of potato in a 9x12 baking dish followed by a layer of onions keep repeating until you've filled the dish.
Pour soup mixture over potatoes. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 60 to 120 minutes or until bubbly an easily pierced wtih a fork.

If you like you can add shredded cheddar cheese in between layers and/or on top.
This is also good as a complete meal with diced ham in it, or porkchops baked on top.
