I need a point & shoot that takes immediate when button pushed or as close to immediate pics as possible. I am totally novice & have not been able to use advanced cams with all the options.

Looks like Sony could be one of the fastest compact cameras available, but they're not necessarily the best camera.
Also look at Canon, which are quick and responsive due to their excellent processors (Digic II or Digic III). And they have great features & photo quality.

Check out the link below which shows the lag times of various cameras...

Canon cameras a good, theres no real instant photo taking when it comes to digitals, especially in a entry level.

I would have to say look into the Canon Powershot Digital Elph series cameras. Like a SD40 or so model. Or look for a Nikon Coolpix camera. They range greatly from supercompact to normal sized, jsut depends on what you need, a Coolpix 7900 is a decent camera.

Once you choose your camera, from the other suggestions, do this:

It helps to turn off the LCD and it helps to "pre-focus" by pushing the button half-way down prior to actually taking the picture. If you put the camera in "Sport" mode, it also helps.

i could advise the Canon SD1100 IS! it relatively is extremely-compact, is offered in a type of colorings, and produces superb photos. it relatively is ordinary to apply and relaxing to play with; i've got wasted multiple time with the colour substitute and colour accessory features. Plus, it relatively is $a hundred seventy five on Amazon! If it relatively is slightly severe, you are able to attempt looking the SD1000 on eBay. There are nonetheless new ones obtainable, they are extra low value than the SD1100, and carry out tremendously lots the comparable. Fewer colour ideas nonetheless.

You should go with Canon A series for midrange cameras (A630 for example). You also have the Canon S3 IS which is a really great camera, but a little bit bigger (but better zoom (12X), etc.).

The best one I have had, and it's even better than my film camera.....Panasonic Lumix.

Does small amounts of video and text recording as well. Anti-Shake, very fast, and reasonably priced.
