We have five children. The oldest (a girl) joined last July. We fully support the military and encourage all of our children to serve their country as a tribute to America.

It is not sending her to die. That is a sad statement... She is far more likely to die in a car accident than in the war (I KNOW>>> I have seen her drive:). Four of our children are girls and the other is a boy.

I am an active duty Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. I returned from Iraq in November of 2005 a year deployment. I have no hard feelings towards the Marines or the military as a whole, but I would still try my best to discourage my children from joining the military. I don't believe it is the best occupation for a family.

I would definately support my children!!! As a Parent one should back their children no matter what they decide to do. The Military is a great career. Wheteher they go to war or not. Also every American should support anyone in the military because they are there for those who would never. People join for the country!

I am an officer in the Army and I had the privlege of Enlisting my oldest son into the Army (his choice). I pinned his jump wings on after Airborne School and watched him go to Iraq (where I had already been) - he earned the Combat Action Badge while there. I guess that means YES I fully support my children serving this great country of ours!!! God Bless America!!! Thank your daughter for her service! DZ

my husband is a marine, so i am pretty used to the military and i don't think i'd be thrilled to have our kids join the military, but i wouldn't protest if it's what they really wanted to do.

i guess when you live it, you view it more like a job and work than "serving your country".
i mean, my husband "goes to work everyday", he doesn't leave the house saying "o.k. honey, i'm going to go serve our country today." just kind of strikes me a funny how people make such a big deal out of it.
well, i guess it is a big deal when they are over there, though.

anyway...sorry for being so long....

take care and happy holidays. i hope your daughter is always safe and happy in her life choices.

the military is a crucial position in preserving u . s . of america purely the way we like it. sure, the will be misused on occasion, yet governemnt spending on military is nessassary. imagine of were we will be immediately is the various previous, extra favourite presidents did not fund some peticular wars. we would no longer also be a democracy anymore. And besides, its no longer purely conservatives that believe this, its the liberals, too. they purely have different military procedures. both way, stay self sufficient so that you'll locate what both area has to furnish, particularly of being blinded by subconciencly leaning in the route of biased critiques, with out reality, purely emotions.

I wouldn't stop them but I have already served in the military so I'm hoping that they will choose a different occupation. They don't need to join for college money so I hope they will go to college first.

2 of my older brothers served. Numerous uncles and great-uncles served. 2 second cousins have served. My dad is a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army. Needless to say, we are definite military supporters! If I had kids, I'd be very proud of them if they decided to serve the country.

Good for you and for your daughter!

Tiff - Good God. You DO realize, don't you, that it's the men and women of our military that have given you the chance to sit on the computer and say asinine crap like that? Grow up a little, please!

Congratulations!!

I cannot wait to have children, just for the possibility that they may serve this great country of ours!

I admit, I am a wimp. I wanted to serve after High School, to join the Air Force. However, I met my girlfriend in High School, did not want to leave her; so I went to college nearby and have since graduated and talking marriage.

Maybe I still should have joined, but I couldn't leave her for four years. Please give your daughter our praise!!!!!
