there is for Julius Caesar. Then they have no knowledge of any of the documents that corroborate this statement. Is there truly this much evidence for Jesus' existence?

If he was so well known, why was no gospel written until 40 years after his death?

as an atheist I do not say that I do not believe Jesus ever lived, there is a lot of evidence for that. However there is NO evidence that Jesus was the son of God other than the words of a few people who lived thousands of years ago. There were more people living a few hundred years ago that claimed witches who could cast spells on people and turn them into animals were real, than people living 2,000 years ago who claim Jesus was the son of God. It seems that people simply dismiss crazy people if they do not like what they say, and accept the crazy ones that give them a comfortable belief structure

One major document would be the Bible. The Jewish historian Josephius also wrote about Jesus. There are also various Roman documents that mentioned him, but only briefly. It wasn't in most people's best interest to keep documents about a world changing rabbi around. That would tend to defeat their own purposes.

You should also consider that most people aren't willing to die for something that they made up. Nearly all of the apostles were put to death for their beliefs in very painful ways.

Most things back then weren't written down at all. Paper wasn't available at the local market 100 sheets for 99¢. Early Christians were hunted and put to death. Their "churches" were held in secret in individual's homes. Writing down accounts was less of a priority. Like most everything in those days, stories were transferred from person to person. The Gospels were then written later by those that were closer or in the case of John, close to Jesus to dispell the errors that were being spread.

There is historical evidence OUTSIDE the Bible of Jesus, the man, not the God, or son of God. Anyone who doesn't believe me needs to research the historicity of Jesus

Outside of the bible there is no historical evidence for the existence of Jesus.

Biblical scholars agree.
