My due date is Sep 20 2007...I think most of the schools cut off dates is sep 1...so would that mean my baby would have to wait for 1 yr to go to the school? Are there any other options? Please help!!

Call your school, it might be later. My son was born August 21 and I think I might keep him out an extra year. Do not worry about it you have not even had the baby yet.

Depends on the district. The school in my district doesnt cut off until Oct 1. Sometimes you can get an exemption, most schools dont do that but my daughters school district will in certain circumstances.. Now is too early to be worried about because rules change. I would contact the school he will be attending the year before (when he is 4) and ask what their regulations are and what your options are. I dont think its that big of deal because the older the child is when he starts the better chance he has. Good Luck and Congrats.

In our public school you must abide by the cut off date, but then you can take a test and skip to the next grade in 1st grade. I do know someone who enrolled their child in catholic preschool and they did take her (12 days) for kindergarden at 4. If anything your son will be ahead being older, but I know what you mean. I recently read an article about people keeping their kids back a year so they will be the biggest and the smartest. It all evens out after a few years and that doesn't really help the kid. Good luck.

I really don't think that's something I would worry about and I'll tell you why. My youngest son didn't start kindergarten until he was 6 because he has ADHD and just wasn't mature enough to start on time. We held him out that year and sent him to Early Arts instead and it was the very best thing we've ever done! I wish we had done the same with our oldest who is very bright. I can see how it would have been beneficial to him in the long run.

In light of that, I think right now I'd be most concerned with the baby's health instead of when it will start school because things like that just have their way of working out for the better:)

If you're referring to when the child is of Kindergarten age, than yes, if your child is born after the cut off date, he will have to wait until he is almost 6 to start Kindergarten. When I was school aged, some schools would allow kids in after the cut off date, but these days, they don't do that anymore. Not sure why.

Most of the schools that i know of have a cutoff date of Dec 1. I was born on dec 29th so i did wait a year to go to school...so did both of my little brothers born in dec. For me, it was fine. When i started kindegarten i was already able to read and write my name in curseve! If your child does have to wait a year, which i dont think they will, just use that year to your advantage...to your child's advantage. I got to graduate in the year 2000 when i as 18 so it worked out well for me! Babies grow up fast, stop worrying about school and focus on the baby!

It's really not that big of a deal, happens every year, some kids miss the deadline. It doesn't mean your child will be behind, just the oldest in the class, no big deal.

No options - but be grateful. A lot of people are voluntarily holding their child back a year so they are older.

Don't worry,
lots of kids miss the date.

They are just a year older than others not dumber or anything.

Good luck!
