For myself it was a factor of the death of my dad and that's when I started to go spiralling downhill, plus I was raped when I was 15.
As for why depression happens it's a multitude of things from a chemical imbalance and sometimes the surroundings too can have an effect on a person. Now that I'm 46 I've come a long way I haven't had a relapse in 2yrs. Time can be a factor it can depend on where you are in life. I still suffer from depression and anxiety attacks but, I've found perhaps the right combo of meds.

Depression is simply "anger turned inward". That is why you really need to be able to release your anger and your hurt in a healthy way, rather than carry it with you and have it turn into depression.
It's such a scary thing to go through though. I know from personal experience and no one can give you the answers or really understand other than you yourself.
If it is really bad, you may look into counseling. There are some good ones out there, but just like a relationship, you may need to visit a few before you find the right match. You also should ask them if they ave experience dealing with specific issues such as yours and what thier success rate is?
Anyway, hope that helps.

Self-talk and thinking about what you Don't want to happen. To overcome it, you need to get active - go for a walk, a bike ride, be around people. Try everything - push yourself - before you need to take medication. But, meds do work if they're right for you.

Too many toxins in the liver and not enough sleep or nutrition are some reasons. I would definitely look at habits and decide what is more important. My health or my lifestyle.

they don't know for certain,
some people get it from environmental factors, others may be genetic and sometimes it may be a combination of both.
