We have adopted a very shy kitten. He has been hiding from us in different places. We always find him & get him out to love on him hopefully to get him used to us. Last night he ran under my kitchen island. It's attached to the floor. There is a vent pipe that runs under the house to the crawl space. I thought the cat jumped down the pipe so we looked under the house but to no avail. I can hear him meowing at times but when I get close to the island it stops. I don't know for sure where he is or how to find him. I'm afraid he's going to die. He's either stuck in the pipe or between the bottom of the island & the floor (it's attached to the floor.)
WHO DO I CALL TO HELP ME GET THIS KITTY OUT? I don't know what to do.
Thanks to all who care enough to answer!

Thanks to all who took the time to answer. I called animal control and they told me pretty much the same thing....to put out tuna and lure him out. They said that if the cat got in he can get out. I just hate to leave him there. He suggested putting powder on the floor to see if he is coming out & going back in unnoticed. If that doesn't work I have to find a 'plan B' by tomorrow morning. Animal control says he should be fine until then. They often see cats "stuck" in trees for days. This was somewhat reassuring.

Hmmm... You might have to borrow a live trap from somewhere to catch it. Bait it with some sort of wet, stinky food or something.
When we caught a stray kitten, we left it in the cage for a few days, giving it food through the bars and such. I had read that that was one of the best ways to tame a kitten like that.

Make sure to close the door so that the lost kitty can't get out and be lost somewhere else in the house. Your dog might actually be able to 'sniff' out the kitten, the new smell in the house might attrack him to the right spot. But I wouldn't let the dog stay in the room for too long. The kitten is scared and not sure what the heck is happening. Just put out food and water, a couple of treats, and a bell or toy that makes some noise. When he comes out of hidding you will hear him... don't worry, the kitten will get over his fright!

Our local maintenance man has gotten some amazing things out of pipes. Maybe try a handyman and the cops. Call everyone over to help with this one! Good luck and my thoughts are with you and kitty!!

have you tried to leave food at the top where he went in? put a can of tuna down on the floor and see if he will jump up and out on his own. if not then you should contact the fire dept. or a local animal control center. good luck and hope all will turn out well =)

Oh no poor kitty! Maybe you should try calling him out and if that doesn't work lure I'm out with a big bow of tuna or a catnip toy! my cats like toy mice try that!
Good luck with your kitty!

Try to lure it out with tuna. If not, see if the fire department can help. Good luck and I'm sorry to hear this.

Try opening a can of food for him or shaking his dry food to attract him. Maybe you just need to leave him alone for a bit and let him venture out on his own. I would also call your volunteer fire department. Good luck!

Try your town's animal control department first. They are experienced in rescuing animals from all kinds of situations. If that doesn't work out, fire department or police department.
Good luck, I hope your kitty is ok!

I had this happen with one of my cats. The best way that we found to lure her out was with tuna. No cat can resist it! (especially if it's been hiding and is hungry) good luck!
