A. The gods grant favors to societies that obey their laws, but punish societies that disobey them.

B. A ruler is good to the extent that his subjects are living fulfilling and successful lives.

C, A ruler has the approval of heaven (T’ien) only if the people are satisfied.

C. I learned that in my modern Chinese history class. It basically is the Confucian answer to Divine Right.

mandate of heavan they believed to be god approving of a ruler. when bad times came, they found a new ruler. they said if bad times came, god didnt approve of the ruler.
