It is considered medium by most. It really depends on your family size. If there are just 1-3 of you that would be big enough, I'd imagine. If you have 5 or me people you might want a larger home.

It's all relative. Mostly it's relative to location. In some parts of the world, 1000 sq.ft. is big; in others, 5000 sq.ft. is small. I rented a 2 bedroom house that was 800 sq.ft. in a neighborhood where that was the average. I owned a home with 2050 sq.ft. where it was the 2nd smallest model in the neighborhood.
"Big" is when you have enough space for all your stuff, and when you don't feel cramped. "Small" is when you feel cramped. So, it's an individual perception thing, too.
So, the right answer depends on why you're asking the question.
If it's so you can win an argument, I'll say, Yes! 2000 sq.ft. is big - especially if you're paying the mortgage!
If you're comparing houses in Beverly Hills, then I'd say No, sorry, 2000 sq.ft. is only big if talking about the garage alone...

Its all about perspective. If you live in a 600 sq ft. room that house is huge. If you grew up in a mansion its tiny. Is the house for a couple or a family of 12? 2000 sq ft is a slightly larger than average middle class home.

That is relative to how many occupy the home. My wife and I have 3250 (Considered in the larger home range) and that was very big until I recieved "relatives", pun intended!. My mom had a stroke and my single son came to help care for her when we are at work and he's not. The house is suddenly very small. My daughter has 6 kids and they have 10600 Square feet and still feel crowded at times, but not that much, and make no mistake, that is a big home by any standards.
According to sources, 2330 was the U.S, avg in 2004, up from around 1400 in 1970.
Based on that it would probably be in the range of average.

These things are relative. But if you consider an "average" rambler built in the late 50s and 60s in Minnesota, they probably had a footprint of around 1000 square feet. With a basement, they could have close to 2000 square feet finished. But in reality, it's more likely going to be closer to 1400 or so (because you won't have the entire basement finished).
More modern houses tend to be bigger. Smaller footprint but more levels.
I don't think people call a house "big" until you get over 2000 finished. My last house was 2450 finished with an unfinished basement, and I thought it was quite large.

I as quickly as lived in a 4600 sq. ft. abode and we've been a kinfolk of seven. there have been 5 bedrooms and each and all of the rooms have been outsized. It became very spectacular, yet high priced to maintain. it relatively is why we moved. the area of the home is in all probability extra significant than the dimensions. besides, it relatively is already a executed deal, so none of this concerns. yet once you like information approximately issues you're able to do when you progression in, take a verify out the internet web site decrease than. good luck.

If it was on one floor and square it would be about
square root(2000) = 45 feet on a side.
It is bigger than a 1000 square foot home and smaller than a 3000 square foot home.
According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average home size in the United States was 2,330 square feet in 2004, up from 1,400 square feet in 1970.
--> http://www.infoplease.com/askeds/us-home-size.html
according to the CMHC, the average size of a Canadian house in 1945 was just over 800 square feet (where did they put the kids?). In 1975, it was 1075 square feet.

It is most likely bigger than 90% of the living space in homes around the world.

I wouldn't say it's big. I live in a 2400 SF house and it's the perfect size for 4 people. I used to live in a 1400 SF house which was a little small for us.

mine is 2200 and doesn't seem big enough....but the layout isn't the greatest either! I guess it depends on how big your family is / is going to be...etc. We have 4 bedrooms 3 (not all full) baths and a full basement with an office.
