Is it the mattress or the pillow? Logically if its the mattress problem then my back should hurt too. But it doesn't. Whenever I get up in the morning it seems like a bone has dislocated and bulged out at the back of my neck. But after a while everything is ok. It hurts though. What should I do? I even tried sleeping on the floor on a sleeping bag with no mattress & same pillow but pain didn't go away. Please advise. Do I need the expensive theraeupuetic mattresses?

I'm not exactly sure if it's either. You see, when you go to sleep, you will sometimes involuntarily move into a position that you weren't in before you went to sleep. It's possible that you moving your neck into a very uncomfortable position while you're asleep. You may want to ask your doctor about it to see if everything is alright.

Hope this helps you out somehow.

I think its your pillow. I have the same problem with my neck if I sleep on a pillow thats too big and fluffy. So the only way I can sleep without neck pain is on a flat, hard pillow. If it were the mattress your back would hurt too. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem. Try either sleeping without any pillow at all or place another pillow under your shoulder/chest area to create a type of slope. Your neck hurts because your spine is not aligned with your neck. Try adjusting your pillows so that your not bending your neck at all. This should keep you from being stiff and sore in the morning.

you may be sleping the wrong way. Curved up in a ball. could be the matress, did u change it recently? when did the problem started? If you are just starting to have this problem and been using this same mattress, no I wouldn't get another mattress. Life style change or not enough water, dehydration maybe? no doctor just a little note to think about somethings. back tract when this start happening and what was going on in your life or what is happening in your life now, maybe stress!!!

First, buy a good pillow-not one of those cheapos from Wal-mart or Target. Second, Get a physical exam. Third, if your mattress is old and saggy then get a new one, fourth, stay away from foam or soft mattresses. Buy a good, firm mattress.

Consider trying a Wal Mart memory foam contour pillow:

how many pillows do you use? And how big is it(they)? I used to sleep with a huge pillow under my head at night and wake up with killer neck cramps. maybe your pillow is too big/small?

Perhaps your neck is out of place. A visit to your chiropractor might help or perhaps a new pillow would help.
