I have a 5 month old yorkie who was 90% pad trained...well things were going good until I had a friend keep him while i was out of town for a week....now since i've brought him home, he goes potty where ever he wants..even 5 inches from the pad...i dont know if i need to "retrain" him again (ugh) or if this is signs of a bladder infection. I left pee pads at my friends for him to use like normal, but i dont think that she enforced it as much..any ideas???

yes, unfortunately you have to retrain... your friend must not have stuck to helping you housetrain

and no, your pup is not 'getting you back' for leaving him or anything like that... dogs don't do things out of spite... they do things simply because they work or are somehow rewarding (inherently or because you are intentionally or unintentionally rewarding him)

housetraining is simple and methodical, all you need to do is stick with it... each accident he has makes it 10 times harder because it's one more time that he is inherently rewarded for it (bladder relief) and it leaves a smell that they are attracted to peeing in a spot that smells like they peed there before.

he might be having a relapse in his training do all of the above puppies can take 9 months to train and have plenty of relapses in between good luck

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again! Sorry to see all your hard work go to waste! Next time use a good friend that listens to instructions.

It's either he refuse to enforce or your dog is doing it too pay you back. People refused to give dog's credit they are very smart.
