You always have to be cautious when taking any type of medications. Side effects of psychotropic meds are similar to the side effects from many others. You always have to be concerned about side effects...most of them subside within a couple weeks of starting a medication, but some may persist even after the initial two weeks. If that's the case, then that's when you should be a little concerned. Or, there is cause for concern if there is some major, life threatening side effect. Just pay attention and be closely monitored by your doctor. If you have any problems, go to your MD. Your psychiatrist knows medications and the potential side effects...they will be able to monitor you to make sure that you are not harmed by the meds. Should an unwanted side effect occur, then the MD can make the changes necessary. The most important factor is to continue following up with your doc.

Psychotropic drugs are life savers when properly prescribed and when the person taking them tells the doctor any and all side effects or differences they have noted since taking the drug. Doctors also need to know all medicines the person is taking as well as any over the counter drugs and any health food store supplements. I think the media makes the psychotropic drug look like the problem rather than how a person takes it and is or is not responsible for reporting any negative effects.
It is the same with media on Pit Bull dogs. They focus on the breed rather than the people who often buy the dogs and how they are raised which makes them a threat and could make any breed a threat. The breed isn't bad, but the bad handling of some of it's owners makes the news because reporters are eager to hone in on any story that involves violence and that breed.
That lady in France who had her face shredded and got the first human face transplant was mauled by a Labrador Retriever.
So drugs that save lives are getting unfair press because of misuse or failure to monitor their efficacy in any individual, by both the doctors and the patients themselves or the patient's care takers are getting bad press that is unwarranted except as it points out how the drug is MIS-USED.

Interesting! I've never been good at coming up with things like this, but I'll give it a go. Rachmaninoff: "Warning: May cause uncontrollable fear and intense sorrow. Side effects include curling up in a corner and crying. Avoid talking to people while on this medication." Moonlight Sonata: "Warning: Those on this medication may find themselves doing the exact same thing, such as brushing their teeth or closing a door, over and over and over and over again--over and over and over and over again--" I have a friend who hates Clair de Lune, so if she were to write one for it, she would probably put: "Warning: May induce hallucinations of being locked in a car with the windows rolled up in the middle of July for hours." Oh, I have another one for Rachmaninoff: "Warning: You should not take Rachmaninoff if your hands are the size of an average human's. Only those who A. Have strange hand deformities or B. Come from a different planet where everyone can reach 13ths should take this medication. Talk to your doctor about other treatment options." The Lark Ascending: "Warning: this medication does not give the user the ability to fly." XD Can't wait to see the others! Edit: Yeah, I actually stole it from that one :P

Why are most people on these drugs? They generally suffer from a mental illness, which is usually depression. With depression comes thoughts of suicide. Many people who take these meds do not see the results fast enough or at all. The thoughts of suicide are still there. I can not understand how taking meds like these will cause thoughts of suicide. I think it will not hurt to put the precautions there though, but I dont see it helping either.
