I've been divorced for a few years now and have never even attempted to learn or know what is on my credit. I do know that I've never owned a credit card and have no desire to. And I have had a few medical collections that I wasn't able to pay on time. (Even though I was making payments.) Other than that my exhusband was in charge of our finances and I'm not certain what could be on my credit. Today I purchased a cell phone and plan (all on my own... :) I'm very proud) and they told me there was no deposit required and that my credit score came back as "Class C". Can someone please explain to me what that means? I appreciate your time and kindness. Thanks!

For cell phone company, Class C credit = fair credit. Well, only for their standard. I guess it's time for you to establish some credit. Good luck -

C might mean you have no history at all. Or that is specific only to the company you are dealing with , meaning they haves devised their own rating.
Usually the ratings are in numbers. This is the FICO rating, the one often used in industry.
* Payment history - 35%
* Amounts owed - 30%
* Length of credit history - 15%
* New credit - 10%
* Types of credit used - 10%
You might have flagged in length of credit history only because you dont have any current credit.

I think that you dont have to worry about it. Happy new beginnings, Good work and best of luck to you for getting where you are now.

It is probably a code that only they use. Your credit is not rated by letters.
