We kept talking about this, but I would always cave in. Then one day we lost it. That was about a month ago. We still haven't found it, and while the first night or so was hard, it got much easier.

It was more of a crutch for me. I used it to keep him quiet in the car or at the store, and he just loved it for comfort. We had been working to only use it at nap time and bedtime. So it wasn't just laying around. If it is always there, start hiding it during the day, and only allowing it at bedtimes.

Good luck! :-)

Tell her that she's a big girl now, and she gets some great big girl things. But in order to do that, she has to give her binky to the binky fairy. (Saw this on Nanny 911 and it totally worked.)

Tell the child you're both going to decorate a plastic bag or basket for the fairy. Then, put all the binkies inside and hang it from a tree. In the morning, the binkies will be gone, but there will be a special treat inside! Maybe a sippy cup with favorite character, etc.

It sounds silly, but by making it a fun, exciting event for the child, it feels more like a special treat than a punishment. Remember to give lots of praise along the way.

My 2 year old asked me if she could get her ears pierced. So, I told her only big girls could have their ears pierced and big girls didn't need a "boppy" (what she called her pacifier). So she took it and threw it in the trash and said she was ready to be a big girl. She asked for it once that first night and I reminded her she threw it away and that was the end of it :)

I saw a Super Nanny episode about that!! It was great she told the little girl that Pacies are for babies and there are a whole bunch of new babies and not enough pacie's. She then told the little girl that they were going to give her pacies to the new babies!! (really excited voice!) the little girl was SO excited!! they got a cute little bag and put all the pacies in it and in the morning the bag was gone!! (to the new babies!) and the little girl got to go to the shops and pick out a BIG GIRL toy for being SO generous .
I thought it was really positive and was a great way to just BAM get rid of the pacies. Then when the child asks for it you say" remember? we gave all our pacies to the new babies?"

My cousin cut the tip off of it...that got them right off of it. She walked around confused for a day or so, but never fussed about it. The best thing to do is not to even mention it, though. The pediatrician told her that she may have to deal with three days of whining, but after that they are over it. I think it was only one day and she really didn't whine.

Good luck!

My son chewed holes in one of his so i put it away. Well, he lost all the others and that was the only one left. I gave it to him after a 2 hour screaming fit and it pinched his mouth, so he spit it out and never took another one. The binky fairy is a very good idea too!

cold turkey, i had to just take it away and never give it back, they will be upset for about a cuople of days, but then get over it.

when my sister was 2, she had one pacifier left and she dropped it on the floor and my mother told she had to throw it away cuz it was dirty, and she did, and did not get anymore.

Sorry to say but you are going to probably have to go cold turkey on this one.Take it away for good-it seems harsh and it may be hard on your toddler for a few days to a week-but they will eventually forget about it.If you take it away and bring it back your toddler will get confused.Cold Turkey!
