The Catholic church has been historically present within some of the greatest turning points of history. The economics would be staggering, and the current climate would be an interesting environment for such a question.

It simply isn't possible today. Back then, church and state were one and the same. The church has no power to declare war or deploy troops, so it's a moot point.

For a start Islam does not have churches. And as for the rest of your question, why would there be conflict between Muslims and catholics to begin with?

What do ya think will happen? Millions of Italian Catholics fighting anyone... Who do ya think is gonna lose. I'm tellin' ya, it aint the Italians. Fagetaboutit.... I know a couple of guys from Statin Isle just waitin' for the day... Anyone with me here?
