I have cheap and expensive non stick pans. Both are great. One thing though is you must heat up the pan first before cooking anything or it WILL stick. For example .... when I cook an omelette, I spray with non stick spray, heat the pan over medium heat, then once it is heated I add the eggs. When frying, I let the oil heat before adding my food. Before I knew about letting the pan heat and letting the oil get hot, all the breading would float off of the food -- then the food would be "naked" and the breading would be burned to a crisp. Hope you can figure out what is happening and can get those non stick pans help make your life and cooking better.

Depends on the pan. I would not put the cheap ones in there because it makes the non-stick surface come off and then it will rust. The more expensive ones would probably be okay if you only do it occasionally, but they might start to get spots or the surface might start chipping. I wouldn't use the dishwasher as the main place for washing the pans though.

NO! If it is Teflon-coated, it says right on the accompanying literature NOT to ever put it in the dishwasher! You probably forgot this, but subconsciously remembered, and that's why you've been washing it by hand!
I'm not sure why, but I think it has to do with the enclosed space, and the high temperatures combining to put the fumes into the air. It has been proven to kill many species of birds!

Most non-stick pan sets come with directions that tell you not to use metal utensils and not to put them into the dishwasher too often, if ever, b/c it can effect the non stick coating.

No, dishwashing breaks down the coating.
I never put non-stick or any of my cast-iron in the dishwasher !! In fact I banned my ex-mother-in-law from my kitchen when she tried to use SOAP on my cast-iron !!

Sure, I wash mine in one and it isn't abrasive to the teflon.
