To reduce the costs of Christmas spending, I’m considering joining my sister and her fiancée in gift buying for some relatives. When these relatives get the gift, it will be from all three of us. My question – is this proper gift giving procedure when the receiving parties will be buying us an individual gift?

If you are buying something that is more expensive and worthwhile then three small gifts that the relatives might not really want then it's a good idea.

technically, if the individual is giving individual gifts, it's tradition to return the gesture in the same manor. In today's day and age though, times have changed and if the gift you are giving is more expensive than what you are receiving, then it would be appropriate...if it's not, it might come across as though you are being cheap.

And please don't get me wrong, you could spend alot less on your own gift and the sentiment would be that you took the time to buy them something. But join in with someone else and it makes you look as though you didn't care enough to take the time to shop for them. It's a mind set thing honey or how the other relative is going to perceive this. You know your relatives better than we do...use family traditions as your guidelines.

Merry Christmas and I wish you luck!
