i just turned 12 and they say it in front of my friends!!!!

Because 'being a teenager' is how they explain to other people why you do the things you do. For example "He wants to die his hair purple...oh, you know... he's just being a teenager". Someday you will use the same expression to explain your children. Don't let it bother you... :o)

Believe me I wish I had your problem being a teenager is cool I'll trade places with you being called Grandma is the pits when you feel like a teenager and you look in the mirror and you see this old wrinkled up face so take it as a complement

I know it suck right now... being a teenager is hard. You're trying to find your place in an adult world... but whether you feel it or not... you are still a kid.
Don't try to grow up too fast... being an adult is hard work and stressful.
Your parents love you and only want to steer you in the right direction.
So you're a teenager... be proud of it... because before you know it... it'll be gone forever!!

well i am 15, and they still call me a "kid" so if I were you I would respect the name teenager, which is a lift above kid. Why should they call you any higher? You are still immature, that is up to you. There are many things that will change your parents mind. First respect them and then get maturity.

Would you rather be referred to as a snot nosed 12 year old? Usually kids don't mind people thinking they're older than they really are. I don't really see this as a problem.

If you are aged 13 through 19, then they are telling the truth.
Edit: Well, if you're 12 then you're not a teenager, you're a tweener, and that's what they should be calling you. I don't see why it's pissing you off, though.

Well if you are a teenager than...it shouldn't bug you, but maybe they're trying to remind you of how old you're getting.

They call you a teen ager because you ARE one. Trust me - in about 10 - 15 years, you will wish you were still a teen.
