The Gospel of Barnabas is a work purporting to be a depiction of the life of Jesus by his disciple Barnabas. The two earliest known manuscripts have been dated to the late sixteenth century, and are written respectively in Italian and in Spanish; although the Spanish version survives now only in an eighteenth century copy. It is about the same length as the four canonical gospels put together (the Italian manuscript has 222 chapters); with the bulk being devoted to an account of Jesus' ministry, much of it harmonised from accounts also found in the canonical gospels. In some, but not all, respects it conforms to the Islamic interpretation of Christian origins; and consequently its authorship and textual history remain the subject of continued controversy.

The Gospel is considered by the majority of academics (including Christians and some Muslims) to be late, pseudepigraphical and a pious fraud; however, some academics suggest that it may contain some remnants of an earlier apocryphal work edited to conform to Islam, perhaps Gnostic (Cirillo, Ragg) or Ebionite (Pines) or Diatessaronic (Joosten); and some Muslim scholars consider the surviving versions as transmitting a suppressed apostolic original. Some Islamic organizations cite it in support of the Islamic view of Jesus; Islamic views are treated below.

I have heard of it. However, it's a false gospel; it's not an apocryphal/Gnostic text. It was written several hundred years after the death of Yahashua.

If you want to get into some real gospels that were lost, check out the Gospel of the Holy Twelve, the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, the Book of Enoch, the Book of Hours, and various assorted others.

Good luck in your quest for religious education, I think there were about 30 'gospels' which were deemed unsuitable to be included in the New Testament.
I commend your search for knowledge, religion really is a fascinating subject.
I don't know if you are aware of the fact that the people that have replied that the gospel of Barnabas is not a 'true' gospel possibly don't know that the gospels according to Matthew- Mark- Luke and John, were not actually written by any of those named authors? They were written hundreds of years later.
I don't mean to confuse the issues facing you, just check i all out for yourself, there is only one conclusion, there is no 'proof' in any direction for or against, you either 'believe' or you believe its all complete BS!
Good luck again in your quest.

The Gospel of Barnabas was accepted as a Canonical Gospel in the Churches of Alexandria till 325 C.E. In 325 C.E., the Nicene Council was held, where it was ordered that all original Gospels in Hebrew script should be destroyed. An Edict was issued that any one in possession of these Gospels will be put to death

The Gospel of Barnabas was written in Spain in about the 12th century. I have read it. I think it lacks logic, historical truth and some scientific facts. For example it says that Adam's navel was made when Satan spat on the dust or mud figure of Adam before God gave him soul. And when God removed Satan's spite, he removed some dust or mud that made the navel hole. (the first human creature "Adam" had no navel as he was nt born of a woman). this is just an example.

The only gospel that counts is the gospel of Jesus Christ. there are many manuscripts with the word gospel in them, but they are considered frauds. Stick to the Bible---don't let the forgeries of the devil pollute your mind against Jesus.
