Often, when you ask Christians why God allows bad things to happen, like the Holocaust, Hurricane Katrina, etc., they do not want to say that he was powerless to stop them or that he was powerless from stopping Satan from doing them. So they say "it's all part of God's plan and we can't understand it."

Then why not say that about everything? Murder is part of God's plan; abortion is part of God's plan, etc.

Is that ever a good excuse?

(Of course this may not apply if you believe God does not intervene in the world but it would still leave you with the question of why God designed a world full of volcanoes, earthquakes, storms, and tsunamis.)

Here's my take on it. God is good, everything good comes from God. Satan is evil, everything evil comes from Satan. There is a spiritual war. In this war sometimes, the spiritual manifests in physical forms, creating natural disasters. God's plan is for good, Satan's plan is evil. Many people get these mixed up.

The statement "it's all part of God's plan and we can't understand it." is a catch phrase that you are undoubtedly going to see in some of the answers you are going to get ..

When you see all the atrocities of the world all on a daily basis, how can anyone with just basic education and common sense, even rationalize what happened with that convenient phrase.

If you are so blinded by religion, that you can't see the reality as it is, then it is virtually impossible for anyone to change their minds.

I certainly don't believe it's a good excuse, instead, I think is a cop out and all those Bible-thumpers love to use those words to show us heathens up.

Some people fail to see the logic in this life on this planet. You are correct that all things are allowed by God to occur. People say that God saves us and He does, but not in the way that mainstream religions often teach. We are here to evolve. Before our reincarnation to this planet, we often participate in planning our general lives, and the major trials we will go through, in order to learn things that we need to learn. We are here to evolve, both spiritually and intellectually.

Through our many corporeal existences, we have done things to others. Good and bad, depending on your use of free will. Some spirits we have wronged in other lives, and if they are not evolved enough to forgive, they may act out revenge upon us. This is why forgiveness is one of the greatest traits one can develop.

You also must keep in mind that the planet Earth is evolving too. Like we saw with WWII and more recently the Tsunami of 2004, where the planet experience mass loss of human life, this is a evolutional phase, to bring in more evolved people to the planet.

It is true if you do not fully understand, all the suffering, dying and disasters, appear tragic at face value. But underlying the incidences there is more to be seen. When an individual finally grasps the understanding that this life is fleeting, almost to the point of being inconsiquential in the face of eternity, the true nature of evolution can be understood. This life is meaningful and important, and we all must go out and do good in the niche we find ourselves in, but also, death of the corporeal body is not to be feared. There is more to our lives than this brief instance on this planet.

As the individual strives to evolve, and accomplishes it, that person will rise to a higher level. Through purity and understanding, and selflessness, they will evolve past this stage of suffering, trials and expiations. The better we live our lives, and debts we pay off to others, we will free ourselves from the actions of the lesser evolved, rising beyond their reach.

This cannot simply happen in one life on this planet. There is no "quick fix" to evolution, but the choices we make can speed us along a more rapid path. Do good in every situation, forgive others, and do not judge them for how they are. Have tolerance in your life and do not lean towards anger, or resentment, and your life will be better, as well, you will evolve faster. The closer to purity you become, the faster you will evolve in the end, because you will understand, realize and desire to take the correct coarses of actions. This is the point when a person becomes enlightened. And with enlightenment, your corporeal life will be peaceful.

It's not that God is not able to intervene-it's because God created us with free-will.

God is our Father, very similar to our parents on earth. Our parents don't have the power to stop us (even though God could), but like God giving us free-will, our parents have to sit back and let us make our mistakes and hope we learn from them. And if we let God, He will work through those mistakes and find a way to make good things come out of them.

Earth was paradise before man sinned-then it was full of sin. God gave us the power to choose for ourselves-not to be a brainwashing god that says "you will beleive this...". It is difficult to understand. God's hope is that you will live for Him and so he can bring you home to paradise forever.

He tests us,

[029:011] Verily, God knows those who believe, and verily, He knows the hypocrites (i.e. God will test the people with good and hard days to discriminate the good from the wicked, although God knows all that before putting them to test).

[029:012] And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Follow our way and we will, verily, bear your sins." Never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars.

[029:013] And verily, they shall bear their own loads, and other loads besides their own; and verily, they shall be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about that which they used to fabricate.

[047:031] And surely, We shall try you till We test those who strive hard (for the Cause of God) and As-Sâbirûn (the patient), and We shall test your facts (i.e. the one who is a liar, and the one who is truthful).

[047:032] Verily, those who disbelieve, and hinder (men) from the path of God (i.e. Islâm), and oppose the Messenger [Peace Be Upon Him] (by standing against him and hurting him), after the guidance has been clearly shown to them, they will not harm God in the least, but He will make their deeds fruitless,

[044:038] And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play.

[044:039] We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not.

God knows all that we do!
