To keep it simple? The blood has to be pumped round the body. This is to take oxygen and nutrition to where it's needed in the body. Just taking 1 case of Systolic blood pressure( the first number used to describe blood pressure)Very high would be 220 (very severe) and very low would be 100. both mean you are in alot of trouble - get to a hospital fast!
A reasonable normal would be 120 to 129.
When the body is being worked (walking etc) the pulse will go up (because the muscles will need more food and oxygen(which we burn up faster the harder we excercise. If you eat the wrong food too much, smoke, etc your arteries get plugged up a bit, so the blood pressure has to go up a bit to push the blood through a smaller. pipe. This is not easy on the heart and can cause it to not work properly. And if you do not go for a walk now and then or eat a lot of fat,and smoke etc it could just stop.

Could be White Coat Syndrome or it could be high blood pressure. You need to have your blood pressure taken at different times of the day, different days of the week, and under different situations. Get yourself a blood pressure cuff and test yourself at home. Do morning, afternoon, and evening times. Do it under stress and relaxed. After eating, before eating. Before and after exercise. Etc. Only then will you know whether it's White Coat Syndrome or high blood pressure. The bottom number is just as critical as the top, even more so if it's over 80. 85 is borderline mild high blood pressure. There are no signs of high blood pressure. That's why it's called the "silent killer." So don't take this lightly and shine it on. Get the equipment and keep a record for your doctor. Do it over a month's time. A good doctor will have your blood pressure taken a second time later on during the visit. This will help him/her to determine if it's high blood pressure or White Coat Syndrome.

This is the way I understand it; Here is a simple analogy: Have you held a hose pipe while water is running through it? Turn the tap more and more, feel the hose; reduce the pressure by turning it off progressively, what do you notice while still holding the same hose? or the shower hose while water is running through it? Well, It's a bit like with the blood.

You see, blood is liquid that flows in the blood vessels (just like water flows inside hosepipes) round the whole body in order to distribute nutrients to all body cells and whatnot (it's a carrier of necessary stuff that need to be distributed around the body). Lots of fat could clog inside the blood vessels thus reducing in size the passage of blood flow and since the heart is pumping at the same rate, the pressure blood exerts in order to flow smoothly must increase so as to go through and with this the heart must cope with otherwise it fails, the person is said to have a cardiac attack.

Blood pressure 135 over 70.

systolic - high is generally anything over 100 plus your age. ie age 35, then 135 is consider average but a range of 100 upto 145 is fine. This is the actually pressure of your heart pumping.

diastolic - the other should be between 66-100. This is the tidal or return pressure between the actually surges of your heart pumping.

If in doubt go to the docs.

blood pressure is determined by your cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance from the aorta. Cardiac output is determined by your heart rate (your pulse per minute) x stroke volume.
A normal blood pressure is considered 120/80 mmHg (this is your systolic / diastolic pressure).
You are considered pre-hypertension if you've sustained a systolic BP of 120-139 and a diastolic BP of 80-89.
You are @ stage 1 Hypertension if systolic BP is sustained @ 140-159 and a diastolic BP of 90-99.
And you would be @ stage 2 hypertension if you have a systolic BP of @ or above 160 mmHg and a diastolic BP of @ or above 100. (High risk of getting cardiovascular disease)

blood pressure is the how blood travels through your blood vessels
the normal is 120/80
if its too low i.e. 100/60 > then the heart is not pumping blood sufficiently to your brain and organs
if it is too high i.e. 140/90 < then the heart is struggling to pump blood due to narrow or blocked vessels
