Hi,
We recently went to Europe and had formal tea several times. Teas is usually served in a nice tea pot with china cups with saucers and a spoon for everyone. Small iced cakes, cookies or finger sandwiches are served with tea, most times on a tiered plate. Place on a tray with a pretty cloth or just on the table. True teas include, sugar, lemon and milk or cream. Small serving napkins are used for the finger foods but you can also use small desert plates. Just arrange attractively and I am sure you will have a wonderful time.
Good luck!

When I lived in England, our work tea time was at noon. Instead of lunch we had "tea time". On the weekends, most people had it at two. It is like lunch or a snack between lunch and dinner because we always ate dinner really late.

NEVER MILK LAST.
The traditional tea will start with sandwiches (white bread, thinly sliced, no crusts, cut into to traingles - never squares) - smoked salmon, or, of course, cucumber.
There should also be scones - with cream and jam, and other cakes or pastries.
Tea is a light meal, just to keep you going until dinner at 8pm.
