I've got a discriptive entry in my excel spreadsheet that says:
Project management fees @ 7% of build cost

In the actual calc I use a separate cell (Cell F9 to be exact) that has the rate I want i.e. "7"

It's for ease of use so that if I want to change cell F9 to "10" then all the calcs change too...

The trouble is, is that doing that won't change the value of "7%" in the description line.

Is there any way of writing that line in such a way that the 7 updates with the value that's in cell F9?

Writing it as:

"Project Management fees @ =F9 % of construction costs" doesn't work.... :o(

in the place cell where you enter the description enter something like this:
="Project management fees @ " & F9 & "% of build cost"

Answer 2 is spot on and something I didn't know - so thank you for asking the question.

Just one point. Add a space before the quote after @ and again just after the quote before %. Otherwise the text before and after the number will be squashed up.
