Is it typical for a preschool in NYC to cost $1,700 a month??!?

So im pretty much aware of rates per year, and the ones per month I've never seen at $1,700. I want to enroll my daughter in February when she turns 2 and what the preschool had to offer, I really liked the cirriculum. This makes me wonder if their goal is to keep certain types of people from enrolling or if you can afford it, more power to you and if you cant - keep on truckin'. I will have to settle on another preschool that's way less than this one. Too bad it was in such a convenient spot for both me and my daughter and I liked what they had to offer for her there.

Tammi - I was also told by this particular preschool that for 3 days, it would be $900 a week.

I think that is ridiculous. Some college tuitions aren't even that costly. I think you are right about them trying to keep certain types of people out. Only the rich could afford something like that. Although, I really have no idea what anything in NYC costs, never been there. I suggest looking elsewhere for sure. There are surely other preschools out there that aren't like that. Also if you are able to, keep her home and teach her yourself. If you want to socialize her with other children, advertise in the newspaper for children her age...start up a play day or something in that area.

I'm pretty sure for New York that that's not that expensive. We live in a nice area of our state and our daycare runs 245 a week...which is about 1000 a month. And it's an normal price range for our area. We did a lot of shopping around and the only way to get cheaper care is to sacrifice the quality ( much smaller facility, less trained staff, etc). However we are going 5 days a week. Just do a lot of price comparison is all I can tell you. And if you just can't afford the franchise daycares then perhaps you should check into in-home daycares. They might be smaller and less expensive as well.

No! I live in PA and the average cost for a 3 day pre-school program is about $140 monthly. Daycare is more expensive. The average full-time cost is $175 weekly allowing you to leave your child in the care of the center from as early as 6am-6pm. Both programs offer great, standard curriculum.

That's very unreasonable. If you know you can't afford it, there's no need in trying to decide if that's a good price - either you have the money or you don't. Send her to a school that's affordable but still offers a decent curriculum.

in New york yes, but I wouldn't do that, if you want to help your children learn than why don't you read books and find out what to do, and find a less expensive school. My mortgage payment isn't even that much, I would never do that, and you will never know if your child is really learning.

I could never afford that. It seems like everything in bigger cities cost more. They are more than likely trying to keep certain people out.
