Superman's writers are still writing, but people stopped writing new Jesus stories long ago. Hell, the last time someone tried to write a new one, they hung him.

Personally, I think after another thousand years or so, Supes could eclipse the carpenter's kid as a religious icon. Same story, better powers and costume.

Its all about money. Jesus still makes money, but the superman franchise was running kind of dry.
